“Great stay for price, excellent location”
I spent a total of 14 nights at Casa Loma. I booked a queen room with shared bathroom because it was cheaper than the a room with a bathroom. I'm glad I did it this way because: 1. the rooms without bathrooms are bigger than the rooms with bathrooms (the bathroom takes up a lot of space), and 2. I never had any issues with waiting for a toilet or shower. They were always available when I needed to use them. They were cleaned daily. The hotel is what I would describe as cozy and basic. The rooms are nice enough for non-fussy travelers, and have everything you need for a comfortable stay - comfy queen bed, fridge, microwave, sink, wardrobe, TV, mirror, bedside tables, good WiFi). There is no elevator in the building so if you have a lot of luggage this may be a sore point for you. The hotel is extremely well located in a safe area. It's an easy walk to Haight-Ashbury, public transport is available virtually at the front door, and there are supermarkets and great restaurants nearby (within 5min walk). If you can't go without a morning coffee, there is a free coffee machine in the reception area. I am currently not having caffeine so I can't confirm the quality of it but the hot chocolate is decent for a freebie (if not just a little sweet). Besides this, there are no other shared facilities - no communal places to hang out, gym, laundry etc. I've found all of the staff to be very kind and helpful. When I called to report a few things that weren't functioning well in my room, they came to deal with them very quickly. They've been accommodating with luggage storage and helped me with some tips about the area. I would absolutely stay here again. It has a good vibe as far as I'm concerned and that makes up for the no-frills nature of the place.
