"We were traveling during NYE and had a hard time finding accommodations to pre-book in Chaungtha Beach. Then we saw that one bungalow was still available at Hill Garden Hotel and booked it even though we could find few reviews. I wanted to write this review because we were amazed at what we got for the price. The hotel is relatively new and fairly small with only 9 bungalows at the property. It is located about 1.5km north of the main road in Chaungtha Beach past the sister Shwe Hin Tha hotel (owned by Belgians). So the only downside is that you need a bike to get to/from the main strip in town with all the restaurants (or the staff can arrange motorbike rides down to the sister hotel on the main road for 500 kyat each way). But it is totally worth it to stay here regardless as the setting is beautiful with all bungalows overlooking gardens and banana trees with a view of the beach and town in the distance. We stayed in bungalow #9. It was brand new with all new beautiful wood furnishings and a huge brand new beautiful bathroom inside as well as an outdoor patio with seating. We had a huge comfortable king-size bed with a pretty net and the staff added a couple mattresses and another net next to it to accommodate the 3 of us. The included breakfast was one of the best we had for accommodations in this price range in Myanmar. Besides your typical eggs, you actually get an option of a banana pancake. There is always some good fruit and snacks as well. The staff couldn't be more helpful. They are always available and happy to help with any need. You can also book trips and bus tickets through them for very good rates. And you can use free WiFi at the sister hotel down the road. The only downside I can think of is the quality of the bikes they have for rent. Considering the fact that you actually need them to get around when staying here, I hope they will upgrade to newer better-maintained bikes to several speeds and baskets for convenience of the gu"

"It isn't so easy to go to chaungtha, especially now the bridge is being repaired. In 45 days this problem will be solved. Pleased just keep this in mind while planning some days at the beach during your trip in myanmar. You will have to take the bus from yangon at 6 am from the second busstation. This is the only direct bus. OK, so the hotel itself. The resort has a spacious setup, so in brings you in a relaxing beach mood. The staff is helpful but the English is not so good. The resort is famous among the locals and many rich myanmar people will go there. The rooms/lodges are a little outdated but clean. The room cleaning is twice a day! Be aware of the power times. The power is of from 7am till 1pm and from 5pm till 7pm. The wifi is pretty strong in the restaurant. The pool is nice and the view on the beach is great. The restaurant is ok, better than the local restaurants around, but be careful! Once our dinner was cold and another time the chicken was raw. When there are big groups in the hotel, the cooks don't reach the same level as when it is more quiet. Bonus tip: when you walk on the beach to the left for 5 minutes you will see the taxi boats. You can buy a slowboat round trip to 'whitesand' island for 3.000 each. These are the purple with green boats. Its nice to snorkel around the island. "

"NOTE: The hotel comes up as being in Ngwesaung Beach when you search when in fact it is in Chaung thar, quite a distance away and on a different bus route. The beach isn't very clean at this location though a few kilometres north it is and deserted also. The swimming pool is very nice if they can keep it clean. A difficult task when the locals swim in their clothes. The hotel is working on educating them by providing swimsuits. The staff is very welcoming and helpful at all times. The cleaning staff do need to improve to international standards if they want to attract more foreigner clients. This beach town caters to the Myanmar middle class and international food choices are lacking. If you want to step off the beaten path and mingle with the locals this is a good choice. If you are looking for more of a location that caters to the international traveler, go elsewhere."
