Edinburgh hotels & places to stay

We were trying to decide between two hotels for our visit to Edinburgh for the last weekend of the Fringe Festival and Edinburgh Tattoo - their busiest time of the year. When looking at the photos of the two hotels, the Scotsman appealed to us more than the other from the decor. But the decider was that one of my daughters who, as a young college student 6 years earlier had visited Edinburgh with a friend, recognized the hotel and restaurant as the one which had welcomed them so warmly one evening, despite their obviously not being big spenders and being tired and hungry! We couldn't have made a better choice and they still welcome you very warmly. The location is terrific. We could walk everywhere but the shipyard. It's a beautiful old hotel with updated features like a luxurious bed and bathroom. We were travelling with 2 of our daughters who are in their 20s. Our room was on two levels, with the bedroom and bathroom upstairs. We had a beautiful view of Edinburgh and the castle. The downstairs windows looked out towards Calton Hill. The bathroom was HUGE with an excellent rainhead shower. (We didn't use the lovely bathtub) Our daughters' room included a sauna off their bathroom! From the moment we pulled up in the car the staff went above and beyond. Ivor drove with me to the parking spot, which is close to the hotel but required going around the block in heavy traffic. To make sure I didn't get lost or frustrated, he drove with me and showed me how to get in to the hotel from the lower level. The staff are all exceptional. Ivor went above and beyond the whole time, but Nick and the other bellman were wonderful too. The staff in the restaurant very accommodating and pleasant. We got to walk through the lobby of other hotel we had been considering and all of us agreed that we had picked the better hotel. We love the tartan fabrics (from Anta) on the wing chairs in the reception area and wood paneling. There are little reminders that this once house

Firstly, check-in was a breeze. We arrived Edinburgh early and hotel got our room ready for early check-in. Though the apartment was on the 4th floor with no lifts, the service staff helped to carry our luggages up. The bedroom is comfortable. The living room and well-stocked kitchen were also of good size, we even had a chance to bake an apple pie! The only drawbacks are that the toilet is rather smalll and the wifi alittle slow. Other than that, location is superb!! Right in between the Edinburgh castle and St Giles Cathedral. Close to all the night and day tour pick ups as well. Pubs/restaurants nearby also serve pretty good food, really love the Albanach down the road. Overall, a wonderful stay and would definitely choose Stay Edunburgh City Apartments if I visit Edinburgh again.

Great! Simply Great for an affordable price! Hotel management knows their differences compared to other city hotels, and they are trying their best to cover up those differences. The room was wonderful with all the amenities provided with regard to its price. Layout of the room was good too, not too narrow, and the wide bathroom. Also the view from the windows was open and freshing. Making you feel that you are in Edinburgh. Good Wi-Fi as well. Breakfast is same in every and each hotel, traditional scottish. Lifts were reliable and quick. It might seem a little further up the city centre compared to others but actually just 7 mins walk and we were on The mile end. Car parking is limited, but the street is available until 8:30 in the mornings. Only few stains in the bathtub is the negative thing we could say. The toileteries were wonderful btw. I wouldn't think for a minute if I 'd go to Edinburgh again.

In previous years, I've used one of the many (and increasing in number) budget hotels in central Edinburgh, and despite the increased competition prices are going up, noticeably. As of 2018, if you go Edinburgh budget hotel in January, you can get a windowless box room with a shower cubicle or, for much the same price, you can get a room at Palmerston Suites: a spacious, comfortable room, views of the west end of the city, separate kitchen with simple cooking facilities and a good sized fridge, clean bathroom and shower (with towels and heated rail), a very large TV if you're into that sort of thing, and a helpful front desk service. The cooking facilities were a real plus: rather than having to plan where and when I would need to eat, the modern electric hobs meant I could enjoy a hearty, fortifying meal - provided it was something you could cook in a pot or a pan - before heading out into those (let's be honest here) wet, windy and bloomin' cold Edinburgh evenings.

Lovely old hotel that has been tastefully modernised. It is in an excellent position near Edinburgh. We used the bus service from outside the hotel grounds into Edinburgh, so no worries re car parking or getting stuck in traffic! It takes just 35 minutes. The food and service is good and the junior turret suite we chose, was perfect, very roomy with a really comfortable king size bed and big bathroom. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone.

this was one of the best stay we ever had for Europe trips. The apartment is nicely size. With a nice sofa area, a full kitchen with all the utensils, bowls and plates. There was oven and a washing machine. Toilet is good size too. The Tv screen had helpful information and the staffs were very friendly and helpful. Prior to this we stayed in a 4 stars hotel in London and we think this is way better. Location is within walkable distance to sights and shops. only feedback we have is the bed is abit hard. But that’s just our bed preference. Overall we Would definitely recommend this place to any one who will be visiting edinburgh.

From start to finish we had a really pleasant stay. The hotel itself is stunning with the décor etc, our room was huge, it had a small but compact bathroom which was also very nice. The breakfast was lovely and served very quickly. Check in and out was brilliant and they stored our cases for us so we could go and explore Edinburgh without having to worry about them. The lady on reception, I think she was Polish, was extremely nice and helpful and there is a free coffee machine there also for all guests. The actual hotel is steeped in history is in an out of town location about 10 minutes walk from the far end of Princes Street so you can easily get your step counter up walking back and forwards on Princes Street. Overall very pleasant stay, lovely hotel and lovely staff.

This is a great place to stay as the apartment was very spacious with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living and kitchen area with all the facilities you could need. Easy to drive to, avoiding the centre of Edinburgh traffic and free parking outside. The bus to Edinburgh was easy, with the stop just a short walk away - £4 for an all day ticket, but be sure you have the right money as no change given. Asda was nearby and the Ocean Terminal centre with cinema. Could have done with the heating on before we arrived though as the apartment was cold and took a while to warm up when we put the heaters on.

This hotel is a must when you're staying in Edinburgh. The central location was awesome, within walking distance to the Edinburgh Castle, city gardens, the Royal Mile and Old Town, train and bus stations not to mention the hop on hop off buses. The hotel room was quirky and spacious. If you happen to stay in the Cairo room, mind your head around the hanging ceiling light. The meals within the restaurant were delicious and well priced. Room service was also good plus prompt and the French Toast was enormous! The staff were second to none, I cannot speak highly enough of them. My husband and I were greatful for our upgrade and the service we received. All of the staff were very pleasant and polite. A big thanks to Jody and Yasmin especially.

My stay in Apex Waterloo Place Hotel is perfect! The hotel is located at the city center and visitors can easily travel to different tourist points and restaurant under walkable distance. The hotel is just right next to the Edinburgh Christmas Carnival and the tourist meeting point for local tour "rabbies" so that I can fully utilise the time I stayed in Edinburgh. My package didn't include breakfast and the price for the food there is a bit high, but I think that's normal for a 4 star hotel. Generally I had a wonderful stay in Apex Waterloo.

this are very spacious apartment. stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment which must have been around 100 square meters. location is good as you can walk everywhere. But actually edinburgh is quite small so you can walk from anywhere anyway. If you want really central, you can stay on the royal mile or grassmarket as there are more shops and restaurant in that area . but princes suite was perfect for us given the huge space of the apartment. there is rabbie cafe next door, where you can buy 2-3 day tours next door so definitely recommend do the 2-3 days tours. try the seafood places in this city. it's not expensive and delicious. The Hop on HOp off bus is also very good . For tourist, we suggest to stay 2 night in edinburgh , then do 2-3 days tours to see the lakes and mountains.

as you know finding a hotel in edinburgh for a decent price can be testing at times and this place is no different but i do find that on the whole that they do try and keep the prices down without infringing on quality. the place is in a great location for visiting round down, close to train station and tourist areas. The staff have always been polite and friendly. rooms are clean and well looked after . what more can you ask for.

I stayed at this hotel for 4D/3N with my family (husband and 3 children). This is my second time to Edinburgh but for the first time stayed at this hotel. We booked 2 superior rooms. The room is big enough but the bathroom is too small, the bed is very comfy. The reception staffs is friendly and helpfull, cause he gave me all the informations about the hotel. The location of Radisson Blu is very good, near to some cafes, restaurants, bars, gift shops and not far from Edinburgh Castle (it can be reached by walk) and some tourist’s spots. We are very happy to stay at this hotel and will recommend to my friends and will stay at this hotel again if we go back to Edinburgh another time.

this was our first trip to edinburgh and everyone we talked to told us to stay near the royal mile for the sights. the location of this hotel was exactly what we wanted. near to the royal mile but also near the restaurant area. we stayed 3 nights at the hotel. when we first arrived, the girl who checked us in was great. she made us feel very welcome and pointed out the different possible sites for tourists. the hotel is in good condition with new carpets and quite clean. the room was spacious and had everything i would want. the bed was quite comfortable and large. the bathroom had both a shower and bath (which i like). water ran hot and strong. the internet was quite good as well. overall we had a great experience at this hotel. it was one of the cheaper options that we found, but this is not a budget hotel, this is great value for money and i will stay there again when i return.

First of all, the staff was incredible. They go above and beyond to accommodate guests. I was permitted an early check-in, late check-out, and they watched my bags during the gap between my check-out and my flight that evening. Secondly, the location is perfect. It's just outside the hustle and bustle of Old Town, but near enough so you are in the thick of the action within only a few minutes' walk. Finally, the hotel itself was perfect. It was clean, spacious, and the showers have good water pressure. I will definitely stay here the next time my travels bring me to Edinburgh.

We had one of the garden level rooms and it was quiet, fairly spacious and had a lovely bathroom. The wifi was the best we had in our two weeks traveling around Scotland and we appreciated the bit of sherry left in the room for the guests. We were tired on arrival and decided to have dinner at the hotel our first night which was not only surprisingly good, but at extremely reasonable prices. The included breakfast was also good, though on Sunday, service was a bit slow due to the full dining room. The hotel is a bit more than 1.5 miles from the main tourist areas of Edinburgh and we enjoyed the quiet walk back and forth, though buses are available. The staff were consistently friendly and we received some helpful advice for our touring, including discount coupons for the sightseeing bus tours. Would definitely recommend this place to others.

We love staying at the Mode Edinburgh. Fantastic location in New Town - Quiet yet very near all the sights, restaurants and shopping. The hotel facilities are tip-top and the room is immaculate. Lots of nice touches in the room that make it feel like home. The staff were very helpful and friendly. After 3 days in the Highlands, when we came back to Mode Edinburgh again, it was like coming home. Of all the hotels we stayed in during our holiday in UK, Mode Edinburgh is the best!

We have arrived earlier as we taking bus from London, kind staff recommend we can enjoy breakfast at the hotel. They have different choice of breakfast and tasty. Besides, my fd was stomachache when we arrive, staff who provide tea and the most suitable breakfast to my fd proactively. She is very caring n sweet . Moreover, there is a automatic sky window in the bedroom, and room space is large and clean, we thought we really like a queen. We will stay here if we travel to Edinburgh again.

Stayed in four hotels during my Edinburgh trip. The Place was perfect as my last hotel to stay in. The location is just right in front of the tram station (to get to the airport). It's not exactly near the many attractions of the city but close enough for me to walk. Overall, I love the cleanliness and chic design of the room, and how friendly the front office personnel were. However, there is no elevator to get to the higher floors. My room was near the rooftop, so I had to lug my bags over multiple staircases. The staff did offer help, which I declined but appreciated. Apart from that, the stay was lovely. The room was small but not cramped. Everything inside the room works (wifi, shower, coffee making facilities, etc.). I also loved the view of Edinburgh coastal areas from the window. Would stay here again if I get the chance.

In Edinburgh for a small private function at the Arthur Conan Doyle centre we booked an overnight stay but wish it had been longer! The small classic suite was well appointed with a most comfortable bed and a large bathroom with spa bath and separate shower. Wonderfully plump pillows , large fluffy bath towels and robes, one of the biggest plus points for me was FRESH milk in the fridge! This was our second time at the Edinburgh Residence and hopefully will not be the last. Staff were extremely helpful and charming. A great place to stay......

We had a really great stay. The house is lovely. Spotlessly clean in all areas. Freshly painted with new bathrooms. There was a perfectly good continental breakfast included but a full breakfast was also available - I think at an added cost. The house is 1.5k from Edinburgh and 3 regular buses go to town at a cost of 1.50 per trip or 3.50 for a day ticket. I would highly recommend this guest house. It's really like a small hotel. We went during the Ryder cup and therefore I think it was more expensive than usual. An excellent location and lovely place.

Edinburgh Capital is a pleasant hotel with all the facilities a traveller could ask for. My very first impression itself was excellent - the hotel was close to a wooded area and we were attended to by a Ms Violeta who was friendly, cheerful, and most willing to extend any assistance that we requested. Violeta is a real tribute to her hotel! Breakfast was a pleasant surprise as it came with a choice we could never make full use of. And speaking of food, I must also compliment Wilbert of the bar who seemed a one-man service machine yet always with a smile on his face. The hotel's down-side is also its plus point; it is located slightly outside town but this ensured that we could enjoy a quiet rest when necessary and in any case, transport to the city centre 20 minutes away was easily available through buses that plied every 10 minutes 24 hours of the day.
