"This is a decent place by Myanmar standards. The rooms were clean, and they serve your choice of breakfast right outside your room. Showers were hot, and wifi was okay. I will say that pretty much only one of the guys working there speaks even a little English, so if you ask any of the other employees a question or need anything, you have to wait until they get him to get an answer. We saw this lead to a misunderstanding for another couple, but it was not really a big deal for us."

"Mr. Charles was recommended to us by a fellow traveler while in Chiang Mai who had just spent a month in Myanmar, and it couldn’t have been a better place to stay (thank you fellow traveler!). The problem I encountered a lot while traveling through Myanmar is that I was making reservations during my trip, but didn’t always have access to a printer to make a copy of the voucher (it was just enough to get internet access in most parts of Maynmar that we visited!). This seemed to be a problem at the front desk as they all required a voucher. Though I was never refused a room because I didn’t have a voucher, it started becoming a hassle having to explain my situation to each booking place I stayed which was a total of five in Myanmar. In any case the manager at Mr. Charles, a very nice woman, told me it was no problem and asked if I could mail my voucher to her from the lobby where there was wi-fi and they could print it out, and that solved the problem. Mr. Charles Hotel was a pleasant five minute walk to the market. Hsipaw attractions are actually all within walking distance, and Mr. Charles location is excellent. There is a lovely separate dining area for breakfast at Mr. Charles and the food was very good. The Shan noodles was fabulous, but they also offer eggs cooked to order, toast, fruit, and coffee/tea. Good, strong aircon in the room, friendly staff, and they knew how to arrange anything you required (bus/train/airline tickets, travel info, restaurant recommendations, etc.) I would stay at Mr. Charles again for sure!"

"We had a lovely stay at Red Dragon Hotel! We travelled to Hsipaw by train from Mandalay. A representative from the hotel actually met us on the train about 30 minutes outside of Hsipaw and once at the station took us to free transport to the hotel. This made our arrival so very smooth and was much appreciated after the 11+ hours on the train! The location is just off the main road running through town so it has good proximity with much less noise! We booked an economy room (twin beds, shared bathroom). The room was a reasonable size for two. Bathroom access was on different levels but we found this worked well and we always had a spare bathroom/shower available when we wanted one. (we have stayed many places in SE Asia where shared bathrooms are on a different level so this isn't unusual and at the price we paid we felt this was fine). The breakfast is on the rooftop terrace which has good views of the town and nearby river. Breakfast is quite good - fresh cooked noodles, bananas, toast, tea/coffee. The staff were really helpful and overall had good English skills. They helped us book the 5:30am bus from Hsipaw to Mandalay and unlike a nearby and very popular hotel, they did not charge us any commission (we stopped by the tourist info at this other well known hotel and prices for the same bus were more than 1000 kyat more per person). The bus collected us at the hotel the following morning - all very smooth. We'd definitely recommend this hotel to other travellers and would return if back in Hsipaw in the future!"

" The best hotel with a view in Hsipaw! Thomas the GM, a French national who speaks fluent Burmese, leads a team of local staff to offer excellent hospitality. The highlight is the view from their restaurant, overlooking a small Hsipaw village. The interior is modern but added a local touch to it. The hotel also has swimming pool for you to relax. You can also capture the panoramic view on the rooftop. Though located uphill, the hotel provides free shuttle service to downtown. They can also arrange trekking trips, if interested. Room rates are around $50-$70 Oh, try their Shan Kimchi ! I’m in love with it!"

"Riverside @ Hsipaw is a new hotel with large, nicely decorated rooms, large bathrooms and beautiful views of the river from the restaurant and guest rooms. Staff were very mostly friendly and helpful. The manager is slightly supercilious. Breakfasts were great, and the food ranged from fine to really very good indeed. I had fun touring the local Shan villages, arranged by the hotel. At $80 per night, it is not cheap for the region but probably about fair. Wifi was slow or non-existent (as in pay places in Myanmar). A couple of things to be aware of. Firstly, it is cold in the mornings and breakfast is outside. Wrap up warm - you can see your breath! Secondly, it is on the 'wrong' side of the river and it is not obvious how to get there from the railway station. Lastly, although the hotel promises free ferrying back and forth across the river, you need to clap and about to be brought back to the hotel! Also, crossings are not possible outside I daylight hours. The alternative route over the bridge 3km along the river involves a trishaw ride."

"The best value in Hsipaw. The Golden Guest is an immaculately clean, new, family operated hotel in a perfect location. The beds are extremely comfortable, and the linens are new. We stayed in the bungalow, and the wooden walls and great lighting make the space very inviting. Breakfast is great and changes slightly every day, and I highly recommend the Shan Noodles. Really everything about this hotel and its staff is first rate, and unlike the other hotel in town the owners are a warm and pleasant local family that really cares about your happiness and comfort. WiFi can be a bit spotty, but a couple dollars gets you a cell phone chip right across the street. Make sure to buy the tour of the local villages at the front desk. "

"Undoubtedly the best hotel in Hsipaw. The hotel is exceptionally clean, the staff are extremely helpful. The breakfast was the best so far as it is cooked to order. They provide free use of cycles and organise trips and ongoing travel arrangements. The room is spacious with comfy beds and pillows. The bathroom is spotless with hot water. The a/c is great. I would liken the rooms to any 4* in London. "

"Great place to stay in Hsipaw, staff are very friendly and welcoming on arrival. We had a double room with a private bathroom, super hot water and amazing pressure! The shared bathrooms were clean and tidy as well although we didn't use them. Breakfast was also amazing - buffet style, eggs, pancakes, soup, fruit and toast, unlimited coffee and tea. Nice communal space upstairs with books and tea station. Good local knowledge and trekking information, we did the longer overnight trip with a wonderful guide called Osho, really recommend it. Rent a bike and explore the area, so much beautiful scenery. We loved hsipaw and Mr Charles was a great base for us. Only downsides were the loud school next door and the rubbish wifi but other than that all good. "
