Great for a night's stay before trekking to Inle Lake”
The Golden Kalaw Inn is cheap, breakfast is good but pretty standard from what I saw of hotels in Myanmar (toast, fruit, an egg, and tea/coffee), closed to where the bus drops you off and all of the trekking companies in the area, and the room and bed were spacious. The room was clean, but I took away one star for the facilities because this was actually the only place where I noticed a number of mosquitos in my room while in Myanmar (even during my trek, actually). It wasn't swarming, but, like I said, it was the only time I had this problem. And while I gave it 5 stars for location, I should add that from what I could tell, there wasn't really anything happening in Kalaw, and the only reason I could see for tourists to stay there would be if you're going to do a trek from there to Inle Lake (which I'd highly recommend if you're visiting Myanmar and want to visit the lake). On a final note, because I was leaving so early in the morning, the post office wasn't open so I left my postcards and money for stamps with the lady who I presume was the owner (I'd chatted with her a little when I first arrived, and she was really friendly and helpful, but I never got her name), and after I arrived at my hostel at Inle Lake, they showed me a message they'd received from Golden Kalaw Inn; a picture of my postcards and text saying they'd mailed them out. I must confess that I didn't examine the picture closely, as it was just on a cellphone screen, and just assumed it really showed my postcards, but that was back in June and all of my friends and family members have yet to receive their cards. I don't want to accuse anyone of being dishonest, and I don't entirely distrust the hotel myself because there is still a chance that there was just a problem with the post, but I've done the same thing in other countries like Vietnam and Thailand and everyone received their cards those times, so even though I'm sure the lady didn't just pocket my money, I guess I'll still recommend oth

Very nice by Myanmar standards”
The staff was wonderful and this is a nice hotel by Myanmar standards. Our main complaints were that the mattresses were wrapped in plastic, sound carried easily throughout the hotel (though this seems to be the case at most hotels we've stayed at), and the shower was frustrating. It would oscillate from scalding hot to cold and we couldn't adjust it to a comfortable temperature, which resulted in having to stand back from the water stream for about 6 seconds for every 3 the temperature was comfortable enough to stand under the stream. We loved Kalaw though and this was a nice place to stay. Breakfast was standard with coffee (including black coffee), tea, toast, eggs, and one fruit. If you are booking a trek in Kalaw, we can't recommend Mr. Myu (or Mr. Myu Zaw) enough. This was my 7th overnight trek in SE Asia and it was one of the best. He is a fantastic and generous cook and very knowledgeable about the local villages, agriculture, and plants. The accommodations were also the most comfortable I've had on any trek. We booked him through the Golden Kalaw Inn.

Home comforts :)”
Our stay at the golden kalaw inn was short but absolutely fine. Location is very close to a lot of places to eat and two tourist sites are within walking distance. Breakfast was usual guest house breakfast of eggs, tea/coffee, toast and fruit which was fine. Room was very big and very comfortable with huge fleece blankets for the cold nights in Kalaw. The roof has an amazing view of Kalaw so you have to get u there atleast once for sunset. The woman that runs the hotel is quirky a bit odd but very helpful. The pictures on here are not up to date the hotel has been practically re built and is more like a nice hotel than a guest house.

Friendly staff and good value”
We arrived at 4.30am but our room wasn't booked until the following night, however, they kindly let us check in immediately & we only had to pay 5 dollars each which is more than fair as it was much cheaper than paying for the full night & it meant we could get some sleep straight away. Breakfast had various choice of eggs & tea or coffee. Staff were very friendly & helpful & recommended things to see & do. Good location, Kalaw is a small town so everything is within walking distance. It is a mountain town so although sunny during the day the nights are extremely cold. We found the rooms cold at night but there were spare beds & spare blankets already provided in our room which helped. Our friends stayed in another hotel in Kalaw & told us their room was also cold at night so I think this is common everywhere in Kalaw. However the staff do everything they can to accommodate you. The rooftop has a good view of the town & sunset. Overall a good place to stay.

A very nice place to stay before going trekking”
We stayed for only 1 night in Golden Kalaw Inn before going for a 3-day-trek to Inlay Lake. The hotel is very cheap and clean. The staff is really nice and does its best to help you for anything you need. Moreover, the rooftop is a great place to enjoy the sunset. If you need an hotel to stay before your trek, Golden Kalaw Inn is the place to be.

Best Guesthouse in Myanmar”
This guesthouse is the place to be when you go to Kalaw. The beds were a DREAM. So comfy that it’s making you not easy to get out of the bed. So location is perfect with restaurants and bars around, and sunrise on our balcony or sunset on the rooftop. Our room with the beautiful view on the Mountain makes me feel like st home also because I got sick and the owner Thi Thi as well as her staff took so good care of me and where looking at me all the time. They will help you with everything and always make sure that you feel good. I can only reccomended this place and will definitely come back here when I go back to Kalaw. Thank you ! :-)

Stay here!”
The owner is an absolute gem, the other staff do their best. I don't know why people complain about petty things, I really enjoyed my stay here. I stayed 3 nights in the dorm room and had no problems. Yes there are 6 beds and one shower room, 2 toilets. This really isn't a problem, waiting 5 minutes to have a shower isn't a big deal. Everything was clean. Extra blankets if you get cold (like me!) roof top is beautiful to watch over Kalaw or just sit in the warm sun when it's chilly. I recommend staying here I had a great experience

Would definitely stay here again”
I stayed in a 6 person dormitory and had a wonderful experience with them due to the following: 1) Good location. I took an overnight bus from bagan to kalaw and reached only at 3am. The hotel location is a mere 5 mins walk from the drop off point! 2) Warm smiles at ungodly hours. Even though I reached the accommodation at 3am, the counter was 24hr and the staff received me with a warm smile! 3) Sweet owner. The owner of the hostel was a nice lady who was very friendly. When I saw her in the morning, she began asking me how was my night and thereafter served me breakfast as well. A plus point was that the breakfast was very delicious as well! 4) Helpful staff. The staff asked me what were my plans for the day and I mentioned I was heading to Alex trekking for a hike. They took initiative and told me they will contact the company to pick me up from the hostel. All I had to do was wait at the nice and cosy lobby :) Highly recommended place!

Great stay in Kalaw”
For the price we paid, this room was great. Private bathroom was really nice to have and the room was spacious enough for two. The view from the rooftop was amazing and the friendly receptionist was fantastic at recommending things to do in Kalaw and gave us some great tips for our trek to Inle Lake. They also serve great breakfast!

Simply the best hotel in Kalaw with beautiful rooftop”
The best value for money in Kalaw ! The owner, a Lady, is just so kind, helpful and always smilling. She helped us a lot during our stay especially with many advices on the places to visit. She gave us a map of the area. The rooftop and the terrace have a just the best view of Kalaw. Very good breakfast.

Nice and clean place”
Was a nice place to stay. The bed was comfy and you have hot water in the shower. The breakfast was good and more than enough. Even when the bathroom in the room didn't look well maintained it was clean, same the room. Don't expect much infrastructure, is a simple hostel but nice and clean. The owner was a really nice lady and super helpful, she talk me about things to do on Kalaw while waiting for my trekking and also always ask if the breakfast was enough.

Great property, great owner”
This hotel was fabulous--great location, right downtown without it being too close to the louder road, delightful host who immediately offered to make suggestions. She's familiar with all trekking groups and was happy to allow for space to meet with guides. She recommended the local weekly market which was delightful. The breakfast was fine--highly recommend the tea over the coffee (but I'm from Seattle and a bit of a snob ;-)). She upgraded our room to the terrace side and the view from their and the roof at sunrise especially was delightful. The room was clean and it was nice to have our own bathroom. We did wander upstairs and look at the dormitory rooms--they were extremely spacious and airy. I could understand how, per some reviewers, they may be colder at times, but they were also beautiful and the owner puts out extra blankets/pillows during the colder nights.

Good budget option in Kalaw ”
Staff was okay not super friendly. Room was okay for the price (definitely book on agoda, that way it's cheaper!). The shower could be cleaner but the water is hot. Breakfast is pretty standard and they are a vit stingy about giving more toast which seems a bit ridiculous. All in all a good budget option in Kalaw!

Good place to stay with nice roof terrace ”
We arrived at 5.30am from the overnight bus journey and were told we could check in to our room at 6am so only had to hang around the lobby area for 30mins. No extra charge either which was great. Later, the lady who runs the place gave us a map of the local area with recommendations for things to do & see, like the nearby pagoda & cave which was very interesting. We only stayed one night before going on the trek to Inle. Room was clean and comfortable, private bathroom basic (but standard compared with similarly priced accommodation elsewhere in Myanmar) and good enough breakfast. They have a rooftop terrace which is great for chilling out and having a drink during the day or to watch the sun set.

Friendly staff”
Excellent location for beginning a trek or exploring Kalaw. Clean dorms, but only one available bathroom for use with shower/tap. Wifi was pretty non-existant, except in the main common area at night. Dorms felt almost hospital-like given the layout, but fine for a night or two. Keep things close/on your bed. Had my loufa thrown out because it was hanging with a towel.. Breakfast is usual eggs/toast/fruit, with good portion.

Nice place for a transit”
I stayed in the dorm here and the dorm is huge. There are single beds but the rooms are huge, without doors though. I think I was on the 4th floor and there are many about 7 people on the floor in 2 separate dorm rooms, 1 shower room and 1 toilet. The shower room is big, it has decent hot water and pressure but the drainage can be a problem. I have long hair and need more water and time. The drainage was a bit slow. It was chilly at night when I went and the blanket they provided was thick enough to keep me warm. They also provide a towel in case that is important to you. The breakfast and fair and substantial. Eggs, fruits and toasts with coffee or tea. The wifi is only available at the lobby but it is strong although don't count on it for YouTube all the time. They have a rooftop if you want some sunset. It isn't a great one as it is blocked by the mountains but it is something nonetheless if you have nothing else to do. You get to meet other travelers up there if you want to gather people for treks and tours. But chances are, they would already have booked something and would leave the next morning. Try leaving a note with the good lady at the counter. She gives very good advice for trekking and would refer you to good companies who do not go in a group of 12 or bigger. For her, it is all about honesty and good advice. They also provide a good map of the town to show you where you have some good food around. Don't miss their recommendation of Shan noodles. So good and only 600kyat.

Very noisy economy room ”
I definitely think you can find better in Kalaw: -The economy rooms are on the ground floor around the reception / dining room...there is constant noise there: the heavy noisy door, the very loud phone several times in the middle of the night, the night staff watching tv, middle of the night check ins, other travellers chatting during the evening, staff setting up breakfast tables at 11.30pm.... - The manager and staff have no interest for the travellers, their interest is all about money. I would not follow their advise re trekking company either as they only advise you on companies that give them commissions. - finally the sheets of the beds all had stains and dirt on them... Overall a very impersonal hotel...only positive was that breakfast was nice, and good location (but in fairness Kalaw is small so it's hard to go that wrong on location)

cold nights but hot shower”
I think that 22.00 or a twin was probably overpriced for this town and compared to the Lilly hotel around the corner(7.00). But it depends what you want. It gets you a bathroom to yourself with a long supply of hot water...worth it to me. what you do not get is heat or a clear TV picture. It is cold in Kalaw in Jan too. The breakfast was very oily and the coffee was like mud.The lady at the desk was pleasant and she has a lot of nice treks to sell you.
