I loved staying here. The location is prime. There are so many other people here from other walks of life. It's not the most accessible as there are no elevators, but for the adventure seeker, it's a great place to be. The offered breakfast is better than most hostels, and my bedding was clean and warm (it was quite a cold night when I stayed!). Lots of fun activities to do there too.
It felt like a dormitory for students, and many students, including exchange students from Berkeley University, used it. In the shared spaces, there were various people practicing the piano and guitar, enjoying table tennis and billiards, chatting, and working on reports, all spending their time until late at night in their own ways. There was a sauna and shower, and the toilets were well-maintained. The security was also quite strong, with an automatic lock at the entrance, a 24-hour reception, and electronic locks on each room. It was located near Chinatown in a safe area, with great access to the Bay Area, which was fantastic. The moments spent with the students were like unforgettable treasures. If I ever go back to San Francisco, I would definitely like to use it again!
The staff is very friendly and everything is very clean, with events happening every evening. Both Union Square and Pier 39 are within walking distance, and breakfast includes bagels, juice, coffee, tea, and fruit, all of which are excellent. Coffee and tea are free all day long. The common areas are very well organized and have a really active atmosphere.
I first came here in about 1996. Still a great Hostel and a good value. Just a little harder to get into the top bunk now.

I had a great stay here for a week in a female only dorm. Staff are friendly and helpful. The room is not big but just enough space for 4 people. They have so many shower rooms so people don’t need to wait to take a shower. Really appreciate all the cleaners because it is always super clean and fresh after the cleaning. I think people should also be considerate and to keep the facilities clean and tidy when staying at hostel where so many people sharing the same facilities. The neighborhood is not the best but it is just a few minutes walk from chinatown, washington square, exploratorium, pier 39, and many more.
