I stayed at Hotel Nikko recently for three nights. I’ve stayed in San Francisco to visit our daughter many times, typically at the Westin St Francis. For this stay, I decided to try Hotel Nikko and am so glad I did! The room I had was beautifully appointed, the staff, from the front desk to the doorman and housekeeping were incredibly helpful, fun and thoughtful. I stopped by the front desk to let them know that they had made this stay one of the best San Francisco experiences I’ve ever had in the city. The hotel is modern, the elevators swift, the staff delightful and helpful without being intrusive, the rooms so quiet and comfortable, the location so convenient to everything downtown - just a fabulous experience for a visitor to this lovely city. They represent the best this city has to offer. I’ve found a new favorite and will definitely stay here when next I visit! I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting! I booked a balcony room. That was a perfect room with nice view city, and amazing conditions. You can observe whole downtown San Francisco and enjoy sunset or dawn a vocation day. Location is perfect and convenient for shopping and dining. You can walk and shopping around best location. Recommend: i will book a balcony room for next time. Very safety and staff was good training.

The Whitcomb is a great option if it suits your needs, but can be disappointing if you have unrealistic expectations. It's a large, old hotel and despite the gorgeous Edwardian era architecture and decor in the common areas, the non-suite guest rooms are a bit spartan. The location is dodgy at best - not outright dangerous, but if you're going to walk around in the vicinity of the hotel be prepared for lots of requests for money, attention, etc. and the occasional bout of screaming. On the other hand, the entrance for BART/MUNI rapid transit is a few steps from the front door of the hotel - use the 8th/Market exit and you can literally see the hotel sign as you come up the elevator. There are bars, restaurants (cross Market Street and walk up Larkin for some good Vietnamese and Thai options) and convenience stores close by and open late. The on-site restautant, while a bit formal-looking from the outside, proved to be a great place for a solo dinner at the bar. For history buffs - do explore the mini museum on the Mezzanine level, devoted to the history of the hotel - which was apparently very glamourous during the 1916-1929 period, after serving temporarily as San Francisco's City Hall in the aftermath of the 1906 earthquake.

Granted: the area - at the edge of the Tenderloin - may not the best, but given the (for European standards) simply insane prices for hotel rooms elsewhere in San Francisco, this was excellent value for money. In contrast to many other - much more expensive - hotels I've seen in the city, which claim to be newly built or renovated but already have a somewhat shabby look and feel, the room and the entire hotel were impeccably clean and modern. Also, instead of the usual 'minibar-rip-off', there were gratuitous water and snacks in the room. And last but definitely not least, while I cannot say that the personnel at other SF hotels was unfriendly, the staff here was exceptionally nice and helpful (thank you for that!). I will definitely stay here again on my next visit.

Stayed here before I flew out and had a lovely stay - every staff member I encounted was so kind and attentive. I was upgraded to a King Room as my booking company stuffed up the booking and then there was a slight booking error with the system and someone thought their room was mine knocking and reception were so apologetic and gave me a free dink and food!! So kind. The room was immaculate clean and spacious - one of my best days and definitely recommend it! Location is also walking distance to all the main sights!

Check in a little slow and Ireques highest floor they say don't have My room was very dark and window facing others room which is not comfortable to let it open the curtain very comfortable bed and Wi-Fiwork so well. shower room was fine My problem is the lights and feels no window. on the 2nd day i request to move my room to higher floor and more bright, they did I book for 3 days, so my next two days stayed was perfect. laundry service was very fast i gave the clothes in the morning, on second day was ready in my room walking to the market or unionsquare was only 10 minutes so many tourist destination can be reach from here and plenty highend shopping malls, hotels and restaurants nearby it's very convenient to stay here as long as you were comfortable with dimm light's I didn't take a pictures but videos you can watch my vidoes of Diva Hotel at YouTube

This hotel was THE ONLY one when booking our trip that was value for money, great location and with some style! Room was great! We didn't have a view BUT this was actually an advantage as the room stayed cool and was less noisy from the street! Bathroom was amazing for a standard room! Room cleaned everyday if needed! Staff are super friendly! We walked pretty much everywhere from hotel (or ubered when i heels haha) ... just one thing to note the breakfast is 'grab and go' style so is just coffee, fruit and pastries (good coffee tho) so dont expect to much with that! but still worth every penny!

The hotel is a city icon with a magnificent lobby. They had their famous gingerbread house out for Christmas which brought in many locals. The rooms were well furnished but as well stayed in the main building (older, I like old places) we could hear everything through the walls. We stay twice and in both rooms we could hear everything. I guess stay in the new tower that they have recently refurbished. The bar is a bit kitch, tropical island style bar complete with a tropical downpour (isn't California in a drought?) full of mid western american tourists loving it. Overall its a lovely hotel but I feel they could up their service levels like adding a turn down serivice to be really considered a 5 star hotel.

Considering this hotel is in the Tenderloin District (well I'd say the boarder of it) it was a pretty decent hotel for an affordable price. The hotel is in one of the best convenient locations which have everything at your doorstep without being too congested or noisy. You have the BART (Powell St Station), the MUNI and Cable Carts within 2 blocks from the hotel. It's also extremely close to shops such as Macy's, Bloomingdale and Nordstrom which is a shoppers dream having everything pretty much at your door step. The only downer would be the slow elevator. There is only one and you can find yourself waiting a while. Another downer is the homeless people around the area but I found that you found this all over San Francisco. Also if you treat them with a little respect they will tend to be friendly back. As a single female traveler I had no issue with this nor felt scared compared to some other areas of Tenderloin. The hotel does have small rooms however I've stayed in much smaller. I also don't tend to spend my entire time in the hotel room so this did not both us at all. The beds were comfortable, linen was clean, the showers had great pressure and were hot. The internet speed was amazingly fast too. Would I stay here again? For sure!! I actually had booked this hotel for 3 nights and had to come back to San Francisco for my last night so I re-booked this hotel for my last day in San Francisco. If I come back I'd definitely stay here again.

Stayed for 6 nights. Did not get housekeeping per our choice. All we needed was towel changes and trash. Room with two double beds was a decent size for 3 ladies. Room cleanliness was a bit lacking. Shower floor had black mold. Shower curtain also had mold which means it wasn't changed before we checked in. I work in the hotel business and would have expected better conditions from a name brand hotel, but cleanliness no matter star rating and brand name shouldn't change. I know this is a smaller property which maybe doesn't have a brand coming to inspect them every quarter, but there' s no way they didn't know shower had mold. Some tilex even would've helped. You can hear people yelling on the street at night and lots of road noise. Again, that was expected because of the location. I think the only thing that would have made the stay better is checking in to a cleaner room with more attention to detail.

I had a great time in SF. My weekend almost got ruined by another guest who stayed in a room adjacent to mine. This individual stole my wallet and caused a scene with his guests while I confronted him regarding the incident. I notified hotel staff who went above and beyond to help me. Long story short I was able to get my wallet with a few missing things but the most important items were still there. The security staff helped out and also the front desk personal. This incident could have changed how I felt about SF but it played out as best possible which I think it's because of the hotel and its staff. Unfortunately there are some individuals who choose to commit crimes while people are enjoying themselves. Overall I had a great time and would recommend the hotel.

The hotel is located in the center of Union Square Downtown. It’s surrounded by all kinds of stores and restaurants. It was a very touristy area, if that’s what you looking for, this hotel is perfect. The staff were really helpful, the room is clean and simple, modern deco. Please keep in mind they don not provide toothbrush / nail , shower cap knit. The rest of the stayed were very pleasant and convenient.

The good: close walk (~1.5 miles) to either Fisherman's Warf or to Union Square which means easy access to entertainment such as Pier 39, Big Bus tours, Alcatraz, Chinatown, Coit Tower, Lombard Street, and the old time Trolley rides. Great food options in the area, especially along Polk Street, which the hotel is on the south end of. The room was unexpectedly VERY quiet despite the hustle of downtown traffic and activity. The bad: hotel's bed was cheap and squeaky, and the shower head produced a small, slow stream of water. So one less star rating on the facility. The ugly: not the hotel's issue, but it's in an area of town where there are lots of homeless and trash on the streets. With that said, the homeless folk never once bothered us or panhandled etc. And if you don't intend to walk 4-5 miles each day to visit the tourist sites, including hills, then you may want to stay closer to the pier.

My USA trip with my mom was the first one, and well expectedly we were looking for some more experience. I have spent many many days trying to choose which hotel we would stay in. Fooled by the address to be at Geary St, the location is not at all at Union Square, it is considered in Tenderloin area which the locals have been saying it is not in a safe area. Someone from TA did made this comment, one of them, i recalled. So there you go it is not in a safe environment. For a first time traveller, STAY AWAY !!! If you are looking for a budget, they have more selection down near Powell St i think. Another thing is, the hotel room looks sophisticated, but not at all it isn't !!! The floor was following the hills of SFO. You need to hike even in the room ? The bed was comfortable but, since the floor wasn't even, therefore i have to sleep in a horizontal way, and in a weird way totally not pleasant but the staff were all amazing anyways

This was my second time staying at Orchard Hotel, San Francisco. This hotel is located 5 blocks away from Powel Cable Car Turn Around, walking distance to any spot within downtown San Francisco. The hotel is not a big hotel, however, its quality is second to none. Big and super comfortable bed with big bathroom. The staff was very helpful with great service mind. I do recommend this hotel and personally will be back to stay here again.

At first , I have booked this hotel because of the location. I knew only it is located in good sight with a small entrance, so not much expectations. However, during I stayed I have so impressed by a hotel porter who is really nice and helpful. He helped us carry lots of luggage with his smile, then when we tip him he said he doesn't want our US dollars but he wants to get our nation bills (Thai baht) for his future trip in Asia (Thai money we gave was so cheaper than US dollar). After we tipped him Thai baht he looked so happy btw he was an African American. Second impression to me was a Breakfast with the view of the Bay, OMG i'm so surprised about this amazing view and the breakfast buffet line was so great, it had everything as well as Starbucks brewed coffee, NICE! So next time in SF, I'm sure I'll staying in this hotel again :D

This was my third time staying at this hotel and the quality has improved a great deal: they have replaced the ugly and uncomfortable nylon blankets with white cotton ones. The room is now also cleaner and the bathroom got new appliances. The rooms are very small if you book a single room, but the bathroom is comfortable enough. All in all, it is money well-spent, especially when it is right in safe Chinatown that turns quiet late at night for you to have a decent sleep. The only problem was I could never get on Wifi in my room. There is also a tv with CNN in the room which is important for you to catch up with the latest while not at home. I would stay there again, unless they raise the price.

I've stayed at the Union Square Plaza Hotel a number of times and each time I'm thoroughly satisfied. The hotel has one of the best locations in the city for Union Square and for the price you cannot beat it. The staff has always been polite, understanding, and flexible. The only drawback is that many of the rooms have different sized bathrooms. For me and my travel companions that was not a problem, but if you like a large bathroom, occasionally the Union Square Plaza Hotel will provide you with a small (and I mean small) bathroom. Otherwise, it is a great place to stay for a price you absolutely cannot beat.

The hotel is located in the very great location! It's near to every thing you need: it's just a few steps away to public transportation points like bus, Union Square and tourist-favourite tram; convenience shop and stores like Wallgreens, H&M, Uniqlo and many brand-named shops. The staff are very helpful from guest desk and maid. Only a few things I don't like is that the heater works only in specific hours (like 8am-11pm) and the bathroom has a connecting door to another room -- we can hear them talking if we keep one door open. Breakfast is not included but they offer guests to have a 9$ breakfast at their sister hotel, Barlett - not far from Herbert hotel. Anyway, this is the recommended hotel to stay, it's clean, standard, new and convenient.

Great location, close to Union Square, groceries and shopping. Rooms feel newly renovated with sink, microwave and fridge in all of them. They have a drinking water machine in the lobby; you can refill your bottles, save some $$ and the inconvenience of hauling water gallons or bottles from the stores. Club floor has complimentary coffee, hot chocolate and tea most of the day. No issues with room cleanliness, they even did our dishes. Considering SF hotel prices, awesome value for the money (even more so if you need a room for 5 people, that most other hotels can't accomodate)!

Never knew there was a BW in downtown Union Square as we always booked a hotel just around the corner. Little did I know, they were one of the few hotels that offered King beds. Huge plus considering hotel rooms are quite small in SF. However the rooms at this BW were very roomy even with the King bed. Only drawback was the location of the bathroom sink and medicine cabinet above. I understand the objective is to maximize space by making it a corner sink, but the mirror/medicine cabinet was awkward especially when trying to brush my teeth or wash my face. I just needed to remind myself not to move my head up or else I would bump the back of my head everytime. Other than that, everything else in this hotel is great; from the staff to the rooms.

This is the best hotel in San Francisco. For sight seeing, it is in front of Union Square where pick up happens for all tours. The cable cars passes right by the front door. You can run to the wharf for 3k and back. It is just 10-12minutes walk to Moscone Convention Center. It is in the shopping district of San Francisco. You have the best choice of restaurants around. Most of all, it has best staff. At breakfast in the Oak Room, Uyen will keep your cup full and your toast to the T. The fruits were always fresh. The pastries and bread were delicious. The housekeeping staff was awesome. And John, at the bell service was so helpful with my huge bags. I had no trouble all the way. Andrea at the front desk was of great help in my booking. And I find the staff at the Fed-ex mail service really patient and of great assistance.Thank you. I had a great time in St Francis and at San Francisco. Is that the only elevator in the world that is like that?

I seriously can't wait to book my next stay at The Clift! Excellent location just a couple blocks from Union Square, superb customer service. There is nothing worse than staying in a hotel and having a horribly uncomfortable bed; with that being said my bed at the clift was so comfortable and I had the best nights sleep ever. Centrally located to shopping and nightlife. The Redwood Room was heaving with people but I never heard a peep in my 3rd floor room. Room was a comfortable size and nicely decorated. My only iffy spot was the bathroom which needed some updating. The Mini bar was packed with perfect and clever essentials. I forgot a couple items and house keeping was uber prompt to bring them to me. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend you stay here when you cone to the gorgeous city of San Francisco.

Loved the location which is 2min to all public transportation! My daughter has a walkingI disability but was able to get everywhere. And when I asked for a chair to use in the shower (which was unavailable), Simone at front desk arranged for a change of room to the disable-friendly type which had a large entrance to manoeuvre her wheelchair. The room type was like a mini suite! We had by the next day unpacked so it was very thoughtful of her to give us a room on the same floor so moving was easy! The beds at the hotel was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on, comparable to the 5-star hotels. Although service at front desk was top notch, there was no service at concierge. When I asked for information about a place I wanted to visit, the guy at concierge looked disinterested and even raised his voice in annoyance when I didn't understand what he meant. Then he walked off! That was quite shocking! However, the pros outweigh the cons and I've already booked my next stay here.
