Hotels near Aquarium of the Bay

No hotel in San Francisco is cheap. Especially one so close to tourist areas like this one is. They will all try to nickel and dime you, charging US$5 for a bottle of water, and this place is no exception. So I certainly can’t say that this place was a good value... especially after paying almost US$70 to park overnight. Besides the typical San Francisco exorbitance, the hotel was great. Comfortable, good staff, and it’s location so close to fisherman’s wharf was perfect... As long as you’re willing to pay typical San Fran prices, than this place is a great choice. For the more budget conscious, you might want to try across the street at the Holiday Inn.

This was a great location and stay. The hotel staff were very considerate and helpful. We checked in early but the staff were ready to welcome us. We did not need to use their parking which would have been expensive. The location was super for walking to the Pier, the beaches, all around. The tram line ran right by the back of the hotel and it was not far to catch the Cable Car line. We really enjoyed our stay in San Francisco and part of the reason was this great hotel. The rooms were quiet, the room temperature was very good and there was WIFi available with the key code from the desk staff.

This is an older style accommodation with some wear and tear, but if you are doing the tourist thing in San Fran you literally are only sleeping. We found the rooms size ok, slightly smaller than what we are used to in Australia, but as we were literally just using our accommodation for sleeping it didn't worry us. Breakfast is quick packaged food, but often we would take our supply and use for morning tea while we were out and about travelling and then find a good breakfast spot to have a solid feed. We travel regularly and go with the flow. The manager and staff were always friendly and our toilet blocked one morning and it was fixed within an hour while we were out. Even though the rooms are open verandah and on a busy road I didn't find the facility noisy and once air was on and windows shut, I could hardly hear the outside world. If you are after 5 star, this place is not for you. A couple of blocks from the wharf, ideal location for people that are active and on a budget.

Between the Bay bridge and Golden Gate bridge. Close to all modes of transportation. Perfecf location even if you do not have a car. SF parking is horrendous with high garage fees in most areas. They work with Shuttle company for transportation to/from Airport. Can catch all sightseeing buses from the wharf. Great area for biking. Great variety at breakfast buffet. ..eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, turkey sausage, cinnamon rolls, variety of breads for toast, oatmeal, yogurt, fresh fruit, cereal. So many of the google reviews are negative and I’m here to actually defend this hotel because it’s not THAT bad! Yes it’s loud and The mattress could use an improvement... it looks that floor was renovated, there is wifi, there is a TV and a REALLY good location! Okay yeah it’s surrounded by strip clubs and topless bars but it was all part of the experience. The front desk were really friendly and heck saved me lots of money. I’d recommend this this if you don’t mind the shitty bed and loud streets. Oh and there are shared bathrooms!

Just realised I hadn't reviewed this hotel from November last year. It was fantastic. The rooms were relatively new and clean, staff friendly and vibrant. Not food on the premises, but this didn't matter. Allowed to bring in your own and own booze too. The best location ever, only one block from Pier , restaurants, shops, transport you name it. We had an early morning wake up with a car horn, I rang to check if we should be evacuating, not complaining, next minute we have free breakfast next door. Yummo. The price was great at the time as they were coming out of renovations and looking for bookings. Hence, my title. But if you can afford the $$$, then stay here for the location. Photos show exactly how good this place it.

This hotel and it's staff are terrific. The hotel overlooks the bay and is located in an old cannery which still has many of the old features such as huge redwood girders as well as an NPS maritime museum. You can walk anywhere and there are some wonderful restaurants such as Scoma's or Gary Danko's . If you wish you can walk to North Beach or over to the Marina and Crissy Fields at the old Presidio. Do it-You won't regret it.

Best part of this hotel was it's close proximity to Fisherman's Wharf (Pier 39) and it's spotless, spacious rooms. Restaurant is excellent as well with a decent wine selection. Beware if your room is across from the Parking deck (North Point Blvd?). Every night around 3am it sounds as if there is a riot going on outside (local club closing for the night?). In any event, the neighborhood around the hotel seemed a bit unsafe in the late evening. During the day and early evening when there are alot of tourists around it is fine. I am giving the hotel a "Satisfied" rating because of the service and the overall hotel experience, however the early morning noise/activity is very concerning and would discourage me from walking around at night.

The San Remo was built in 1906 and since it is a historical building that has not been remodeled or modified from its original form retains an authenticity and charm from another era. To wit, the bath accommodations are shared although some rooms have sinks in them. It's not for everyone, e.g. children, but you will hear different languages spoken in the halls on a daily basis. Even though the baths and toilets are shared they are very clean. The charm of the individual rooms aside, the San Remo has lots of remarkable touches like earplugs, mini boxes of Sun Maid raisins, Tootsie Rolls, and Brownies just to name a few. The coffee bar is 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (actually usually until the last guests have checked in). The reception staff is knowledgeable and super friendly. Downstairs, an old school Italian restaurant Fior d'Italia allows you to rub shoulders with real San Francisco elites. New Orleans Jazz on Sunday afternoon--a great place to sip an Old Fashioned!
