"I stayed for 6 days, and I appreciated! I mean, I don't understand why many of people here expect such a very high standard from what you would pay here. You can't compare to other 5-star hotel while you wanna pay this price don't you? so this is my opinion and i really wanna share so you can decide carefully. the location is good. it's next to china town and to metro just 10 mins. if you got many stuffs, there is an airport shuttle bus then, 9 dollars. and what I like is it isn't located in very downtown, i mean if you travel alone and don't like crowded people, this is a good choice for location. and nothing bad happened to me. hopeless people are much more in downtown, not here. about the complain over the bathroom and cleanliness. it's share in the hall way, i know the hall way is a bit creepy because of interior design but all safe. it's share but it's very separated. there is hot water for you. and it's dirty because of visitors, mates always make it cleaned every day. so what are you guys blaming for? the room is very small but it's all you want. there is a big hotel you can stay all day. but this one is for traveler. for those who just back sleep at the night and ready to go at the morning. only one thing is would complain for the room here is mosquitoes in my room. i gotta kill 2-4 of them every night. most of all, i really appreciated their warm welcome. they always responded when I talked or asked. the only mistake they made is the poor on managing just sometimes. so I hope this would help you decide. "My first thoughts was that the hotel was a little tired for the amount of money we are paying to stay here. However the room tho a little dated and basic has the best bed ever and a really good hot shower . Our view is if a brick wall , however it’s completely quiet from any traffic. Location wise it’s brilliant. Walking distance easily tor the wharf and other areas . I understand that we have paid more to stay in a safer location and with the brilliant friendly staff- yes would book here again !"

"This was my third time staying at this hotel and the quality has improved a great deal: they have replaced the ugly and uncomfortable nylon blankets with white cotton ones. The room is now also cleaner and the bathroom got new appliances. The rooms are very small if you book a single room, but the bathroom is comfortable enough. All in all, it is money well-spent, especially when it is right in safe Chinatown that turns quiet late at night for you to have a decent sleep. The only problem was I could never get on Wifi in my room. There is also a tv with CNN in the room which is important for you to catch up with the latest while not at home. I would stay there again, unless they raise the price."

"when we first got to union square plaza, our first thought was that the room was incredibly small. the place is a bit dated, and it needs refurbishing, but we were on a budget and in the end, it sas worth what we paid for. hotels in union square area are really expensive, we're glad to have found a hotel conveniently located within our budget. internet was supposed to have charge, but since we stayed for three nights the front desk clerk gave us the password for free. since it's located at union square, there are a lot of restaurants nearby. we noticed there are a lot of people lining up at the japanese restaurant beside the hotel. all the time. we did noy get to try it though... despite the hotel being dated and it gave us the feeling that the hotel wasnt really clean, we got fresh linen daily and fresh towels, so it isn't so bad. we might stay again. not bad for travellers on a budget who wants just the basic room."

"I had an enjoyable stay at the Monarch. There were a lot of other europeans there and it was nice to chct with them. The lobby downstairs was really nice and cozy and I enjoyed having my morning coffee downstairs in the lounge section of the lobby conversing with other guests. My only complaint was that the hotel was not equipped with the best Wi-fi, some guests reported that it only worked in the lobby for them. Both managers were absolutely great and had perfect customer service skills. Locution is very good. "

"Very clean. Spacious rooms, which are tastefully decorated and well furnished. Good restaurant. Convenient location if you are traveling with a family with Walgreens (which we would use for drinks, quick sandwiches, snacks, etc.) and CVS only two blocks in different directions. A Starbucks in the building was also VERY convenient and appreciated for morning coffee and/or breakfast sandwiches. Staff at every touchpoint (bellhop, concierge, front desk, room service, housekeeping) were friendly, professional and efficient - same comments for B&W Car Rental & UPS, which are also located in the building. UPS received a package for me for a small fee ($6). The hotel is only a couple of blocks from a cable car starting point, which is a fun and convenient way to get to Pier 39 . I would recommend Hotel Nikko without hesitation. "
