Hotels near Gas Street Basin

We had an executive room, which gave us access to the executive lounge. This was fabulous value as free drinks and canapés are served from 6-9pm. Rofuto restaurant was very impressive and breakfast the next morning was one of the best we've had at any hotel. It's a bit of a walk to Birmingham New Street, 15 mins or so, but an über taxi cost less than £3.50. I'd put the hotel at more of a 5 star than a 4. Much more luxurious than the other 4 star Birmingham hotels we've stayed in.

This hotel rocks! What you see in the pics is what you get. No "we show you our best room and then you'll get nothing like this" scam. We've stayed there for 5 nights on our lazy vacation so we have been sleeping for hours and stayed in a lot. A huge, very comfy bed. QUIET room with nice view. Even though the room is small it's really comfy in general. Shower is very very nice. Staff was very nice as well. All that place is very modern and quiet, in nice neighbourhood, 15 minutes walk from the city centre (Bullring). Plenty of shops and cafes nearby. Vending machine in the lobby offers snacks and hot/cold drinks for a pound. The free Wifi is super fast and always works. The only small minus is that after long hot shower whole room gets really steamy. Also there is no place to put your things or bags but that is not really a big problem. It will definitely be my first choice for my next stay in Birmingham really soon!

I stayed in this hotel before I had read any of the reviews and was surprised at how poorly it had been reviewed by some others. This hotel is a beautiful old building with Gargoyles adorning the outside, but it is very old, my room was modern to an ok standard and clean, there is some refurbishment going on in this hotel but it will take some millions to get it complete but they are doing it up, I did overhear some other guests complaining about their rooms so clearly not all were done yet so be ready.. my room was a perfect example of the photos shown on Agoda and clean, location wise it was perfect and there are some great local bars that do good food, the hotel is located in the poorer end of town and initially I was very wary walking the streets but I found the locals friendly and polite, this end of town has turned into bit of a student mecca with a college and backpackers near by, so it has a young but laid back vibe but for its location for me was perfect for the price and only a 5 minute drive into the centre of town.I understand some of the gripes I have read but this hotel caters for the wedding parties so it can get a bit noisy,I had someone trying to get me up at 6am because he had the wrong room!! but all in all a very nice stay and would go back, one thing I would add is that I wouldn't leave an expensive car on the street and be careful of valuables being left on seats as I saw broken glass on the floor where a window had been put through in the past,but my car was fine (its older)and so were the other guests, I never saw any trouble and wouldn't have an issue staying here again.

Having read some good reviews and some very bad reviews prior to staying we decided to read between the lines and stay at the Britannia. We had a very small room adequate for our needs, very clean although when one used the bathroom the noise from the water pump sounded like a tractor. Can not comment about the hotel facilities food etc., as we were out most of the time and didn't eat or drink there. Although the tea and coffee in our room were not the best of quality. The location was in a very good position for shopping and the railway. The only thing about the area was the low life beggars on the street keep pestering one for cash, where I live the police would have moved them on and if I was the hotel security staff I would have moved them on away from the hotel entrance. The other thing I didn't like in the street the bible punchers pestering one, they did not like it when I told them I was a none believer and religion was the route of evil and wars. Hotel was Ok

The hotel is situated strategically in the heart if Birmingham city with close proximity to the council house and public library. There is a street with many restaurants and shops nearby. The train station is within 6-8minutes walking tine and provides easy access to city peripheral. The property is clean with sheets crisps and whites that lives up to its 5-star mark. Overall, i woukd rate the experience awesome !!!

Travelling into Moor Street on the chiltern line from Stratford upon Avon the location of this hotel is perfect being next door to the station. It’s also right next to Selfridges and the Bull ring and now this is connected to the new street Grand central shopping centre with loads of shops and restaurants. The hotel itself is roomy, friendly well equipped and great value. We had a family impromptu night there for heating and showers when our boiler broke down. Fun was had by all four of us staying in the hotel and enjoying Birmingham. The hotel staff were so helpful finding rooms next door to each other so we could be close to our children. Thank you Clayton hotel team for helping us when we needed it! : ) lovely.

This is a good hotel. Distance from New Street station is fantastic but its a shame the surrounding area is so grubby and run down. The welcome and checking-in was warm and professional. The room was very good, a little cold though. No matter what I tried to do with the thermostat, nothing seemed to change this. I did mention it when leaving the hotel. I should have said it during my stay to be honest. One of the main reasons for booking this hotel, apart from location, was its gym. I was hoping it wold be a good one and one I would expect to be in a 4 star hotel. But it was awful and useless. 6 dumb bells, 2 running machines, 1 rowing machine. There were 4 people working out in the room and that was over crowded. If someone was using the dumb bells, you had no chance unless you wanted to be hit in the face by one. It was the worst gym I have ever seen in a 4 star hotel. I did speak to reception about this and they said it was going to be refurbished, no date was given. This was the only down side to it and dont want it to over shadow what is mainly a good hotel

Less than 3 minutes walk from the back of the Bullring. Reviews talking about the area being unsafe are unfounded - it's a town centre hotel, so of course it will be 'lively'. No uncomfortable moments while I stayed there. Rooms are incredibly comfy. The 'pull down' bed people talk about, is a REAL bed - it just happens to store on the wall if you need more space. It has a luxury foam mattress on top - best night's sleep I'd had in ages. Kitchen had everything you needed and the bathroom was clean and spacious. Fantastic to have an iron ready in the room. Can't wait to stay again.

Stayed here whist visiting Barclay card arena. The room was spotless, the bed large and comfortable and querkie toiletries in the bathroom. Room furnished to great standard. Slightly disappointed with the fact that the Spa area had recently de commissioned steam and sauna suites. The staff were helpful and attentive and the location ideal for the Mailbox and canal basin bars and restaurants. No hesitation in booking a re visit

We had a great 2 nights stay. The executive room that we book was surprisingly small and we had problems in putting all our luggages in the room. However, the staff was so helpful to give us an upgrade to a King Suite.. That was a really a very kind gesture and we were very grateful. The hotel is in great location in New Street. The New Street train station is just 1 min walk opposite the hotel. Shopping and food outlets are all nearby. The staff are all helpful and friendly.

The Hotel still feels new and crisp, the rooms are excellent with clean, crisp linen, neat furnishings and a decent sized shower. The ONLY drawback of this compact hotel was that they don't do early book-ins, even after I mentioned that my flight would land 7:10am and that I would want to book in at 7:45am, they merely mentioned that they could only accommodate me at 15:00! Luckily a room went open two hours and the receptionist could assist me. Other than that the stay was pleasant, affordable and quaint.

I booked and paid in full for a one night stay to attend my Daughter's graduation. On my way to Birmingham I received a phone call to say that the hotel through a "technical issue" was overbooked and they were moving me to an alternative outside the centre. This was not acceptable and I asked them if there was nothing in the centre of Birmingham he said no. To cut a long story straight through Agoda I found another room at an alternative hotel just down the road. So when the receptionist at the AC said there was no rooms available in Birmingham he obviously hadn't tried looking very hard.

this is a budget hotel do don't expect 5* ,excellent value for money,on site parking for £5 night through to 5.30 pm next day,location 2 minutes walk 02 acadamy 7 minute walk China town, ,20 minute walk broad st,15 minutes German markets train station ,I personal ly like to walk so excellent location..we had the twin room spacious with on suite bathroom, £33 for a night good value ideal if you smoke because you got direct assesse to outside. Staff very friendly professionals and helpful, also late check out midday. overall excellent value for money

Very good hotel with excellent location( but at first was difficult to find it). In the middle of city center! Very warm, quit, comfortable, with city view.. Use the kitchen in the room every day ( because we don't eat hot-dogs and hamburgers which we find in all bars) and the dishwasher was very useful! Supermarket with food is only any steps from hotel. Breakfast was good. Staff is very friendly.Recommend to all!! Can't say nothing bad.. Everything was perfect!!

We arrived at about 6.30 to check in, this was completed quickly. We were advised not to put out room card near our mobile, which we immediately forgot and then couldn't get in the lift. The receptionist sorted this straight away. The rooms are big, bright and clean and the bathroom was a good size with a big shower. The location isn't the best in birmingham and it's a good 20 mins walk to broad street however we were going to the jam house which was literally around the corne so was ideal for us. We were advised to be up early if we didn't want to queue for the buffet breakfast. We went down for 8.40 till about 9.15 and there was no queue. There was plenty of choice if foods, juices and drinks. Check out wasn't till 12 so we could take time getting ready and then reception called us a taxi and advised us how much it should cost to get back to the station

I wanted somewhere to stay within walking distance of the Conservative party conference. Most places were full and after a couple of hours searching found the comfort inn which checked all the boxes. Its an older hotel but was very clean, the staff friendly and served an excellent breakfast. It would be my first choice on a subsequent visit to Birmingham and is easy walking distance from New Street and Moor street stations.
