Hotels near Georgian House

I stayed at the George for 2 days over a weekend. Location is much better than any hotel on Princes Street. Right in the best shopping area (not for "touristy" shopping). Conveniently close to major attractions and a short walk to other areas. I had a single room so it was a bit on the small side, but comfortable enough for a single traveler. The George seems to be a combination of a few buildings so navigating to get to my room was a bit maze-like with several twist/turns and tight stairs. Make sure to have the concierge handle baggage.

We found this Hotel to be very convenient for our purposes. The Staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Any extra items i.e. towels coffee etc. were obtained from the desk without any problem. The rooms were very clean and serviced every day. As it was very hot and no A/C in room, it became a bit uncomfortable to sit in the room for any length of time. I suppose it was unusually hot for Edinburgh, so couldn't be helped. The only problem with room was the total lack of drawer space, but apart from that, perfectly adequate. It is a very conveniently placed hotel within a few minutes walk of most amenities and only 5 minutes walk to Princes Street. Overall we had a pleasant stay at this hotel and would recommend it to anyone.

The room I booked online was not the same for its square meter and it was not looking to a day light. In the picture I had from Agoda, There was a nice window and sofa Room service takes 30 - 45 minutes for a wine and never the orders came in rightly. First night dinner at the restaurant I asked first 250 ml red wine and then a glass came in and I thought it was the half but then I re-ordered this time 250 and it came with caraf but they charged me for both 250 ml in total 500 ml. I tried to explain them and their explanation was they poured the 250ml caraf into one wine glass. 250 ml caraf wine probably will not fit into a glass. I did not make it a real problem and left.Then I had order an other one to my room next day, 250ml, came as a bottle. But the last is the best, they have charged me that bottle twice to my receipt, and although had breakfast for one, charged 2 people because I am in twin room. If I had not checked, it would go to my credit card and I got no apologies...

Although it is not a modern hotel, the Ballantrae is conveniently positioned near the tram terminus and the bus station. Our room was huge with a big high ceiling and enormous windows. It will probably be modernised in time and the room reduced in size so it was a treat to see inside one of the Georgian house that Edinburgh is famous for and spend a night there. Everyone working at the hotel was helpful and friendly.

This is a real hidden gem in a quiet part of the magnificent 18th century Georgian New Town of Edinburgh. Lovely spacious room with beautiful, antique furniture & tasteful, classy decor - luxurious, comfortable bed. Double window view over private park to which we would have had access had we not been so busy exploring this world class city. Conveniently located for a wide selection of New Town restaurants. Staff were welcoming, polite, friendly and very helpful - looked after our luggage for us as we were getting a late train back to Yorkshire. Generous portions of coffee, tea, sugar, milk & biscuits in the room. Lovely bathroom. Superb breakfast. All in all - just perfect!

My husband and I stayed in early April for the weekend and were greeted by a glass of complimentary champagne. The rooms are all bespoke, our room had a “Rio” theme and featured carnival photos and Christ the Redeemer covered one wall. The full Scottish breakfast featured haggis and potato scones and was delicious. The bar was very busy in the afternoon with locals having to book a table! The only drawback was the nightclub that is underneath the bar and was as you would expect very noisy on Saturday night. The hotel does provide a sleep pack featuring ear plugs and a pillow spray. As it happened a full day walking around Edinburgh was enough to wear us out, so we had no need of the sleep pack. The staff were very attentive and willing to help store luggage etc if needed.

My stay in Apex Waterloo Place Hotel is perfect! The hotel is located at the city center and visitors can easily travel to different tourist points and restaurant under walkable distance. The hotel is just right next to the Edinburgh Christmas Carnival and the tourist meeting point for local tour "rabbies" so that I can fully utilise the time I stayed in Edinburgh. My package didn't include breakfast and the price for the food there is a bit high, but I think that's normal for a 4 star hotel. Generally I had a wonderful stay in Apex Waterloo.

Four converted Georgian townhouses make a really great boutique hotel. A short walk, no more then fifteen minutes, to the city center but the hotel is very quiet and restful. Beautiful large rooms with a huge bathroom, ten foot high windows and 12 foot high ceilings give a taste of what life was like when these buildings were new. Staff very friendly and I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Amazing hotel. Staff couldn’t be more friendly and helpful. On arrival we were told we had been upgraded to the Georgian Suite which is amazing. Huge room, comfy king size bed, great view of George Street and the fireplace was a great feature. Then breakfast in bed the next morning just topped off an amazing stay. Hotel even kept our bags the next day while we went out to save us dragging them around everywhere. Can’t wait to go back and stay again.

By far, one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. When I first arrived at Angels Share Hotel it was late at night, almost 11, and when I walked into the door I just saw a pub and was quite confused. I went back outside and into the other door and it was still the pub/restaurant part. The bartender saw me, came up to me and asked if I needed help. He then walked me to the reception desk (which is on the 2nd floor) and the receptionist helped me from there. On the day I left, I had to leave at 3:30a.m and the receptionist called ahead of time for me and as soon as I walked out the door the morning I had to leave, the taxi driver was there waiting for. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be coming back to this hotel. The staff are the nicest people I have ever met and very helpful at that. I will save the details about the pub & room for you all to find out. But, the pub and room are just simply breathtaking. Defiantly worth the money. MY ONLY COMPLIANT: I had no idea how to turn down the heat in my room.

I was staying in Edinburgh for the weekend to watch the Scotland v Italy rugby game and to visit family. When I arrived at the hotel I was pleasantly suprised because although it is advertised as a 3.5* it appeared to be better than some 4* I'd stayed in. The check in was quick and effortless with a polite and friendly member of staff. Once I got to my room I was further pleased with how clean and warm it was - two of my most basic requirements for a hotel. There was a heater that could be adjusted to suit - a rarety in a lot of hotels i'm sad to say and the view of the city from the room was amazing. The bed was comfortable giving me a good nights sleep and in the morning I was refreshed with an excellent power shower. The room was small but that doesn't bother me, however 2 people I was travelling with upgraded their room to a larger one with a better view for a small supplement. I would also recommend having the afternoon tea in the restaurant, which is reasonably priced and left me feeling pleasantly satisfied . All in all I would definitely stay here again and strongly consider staying in a Mecure in other cities/countries if this is the set standard.

We stayed in Edinburgh for 3 days, and booking at this hotel was one of the best decisions we made. First of all, the manager was very welcoming, very pleasant to be around. He even helped us with booking for the highlands tour in such a short notice. Breakfast is wonderful, withe a range of choices we can have to start the day off. The ambiance of the place is so calm and relaxing. The rooms and facilites are very clean and well maintained. The hotel is conveniently situated within walking distance from almost all the places you must visit at the city. At a very affordable price, it greatly exceeded our expectations and we had such a wonderful time. Everything came so easy, I recommend this to everyone planning to visit Edinburgh.

Had a wonderful stay at The Place which was very modern and spotlessly clean. All facilities worked as they were supposed to do. We could stretch out in the space (room 3802) and slept really well despite the road fronting location. Would definitely stay here again and was sorry to leave. Location within a reasonable walk into the high street and the busy bustle of Edinburgh. Didn’t try the breakfast as we were going to The Elephant House on a HP pilgrimage with the daughter. Loads of significant sites within walking distance of hotel.

5-10 mins walk from train station. Given that breakfast was provided, it can be considered "value-for-money". The room is clean but on the small size with barely walking space. Toiletries are also bare essentials e.g. one for all shampoo and body gel. Since breakfast was provided, I gave a 4-star. However, food standard would be a 3 star base on quality. Overall, these are fine since I have expected based on IBIS no frills and value-for-money branding.

We stayed at this lovely hotel from 18th to 20th September to celebrate our 7th Wedding Anniversary and were so pleased we chose this venue. The hotel has been recently refurbished to a very high standard with no expense spared even down to the quality of the cutlery, glasses and coffee maker in the room. Our room was spacious, light and airy, with a mini fridge, hairdryer and straighteners, alongside finishing touches including cotton buds and tissues. The bed was huge and very comfortable - again quality products. There is a micro-brewery in the bar downstairs serving Czech beers which my husband assured me were amazing. Just ask one of the Bar staff, they will tell you all about the micro-brewery and you can even try the beer before you buy it - what more could you ask for! Food - lots to choose from on lunch and dinner menu's, which is reasonably priced, we had the sharing platter for 2 in the evening which was spectacular and included ribs, beef brisket, chicken wings and creamed corn. The quality and presentation of the food was exceptional....well done to Chef and his staff for all of the hard work that goes into delivering a great plate of food. Staff and Management - Very pleasant and happy people who could not do enough for us from entering to leaving the hotel. Overall - an amazing few days in a fantastic hotel. Thanks to all of you who made our anniversary special and we look forward to seeing you again on our next visit :)

I stayed at No.11 Brunswick on 2 separate occasions bookending a tour to the Highlands in the middle, and I adore this boutique hotel! The story behind this house gives it such character, which I found charming and apt considering Edinburgh and Scotland is full of stories both real and in folklore. The hotel is on the New Town side, on a quiet street about 15 mins walk to Waverly station. A lovely change from the standard lodges or hotels in the city. I stayed in a single room (room 4) in the first part, and really liked the space of the single room; quite different to other single rooms of standard hotels I have stayed at previously. The bathroom has no door but who needs one in a single room :) There is plenty of light coming into the room with its floor to ceiling windows which I appreciated, and the furnishings are classical and contributes to the hotel's character. I found the room cosy and warm, again quite different to other draughty hotel rooms in the UK and one thing I was grateful for as I am from the tropics. I returned to No.11 after visiting the Highlands to a double room (room 10) on the top floor and that was my favourite and it really felt like I was coming home. The high windows, luscious bed, muted grey tones of this room was so welcoming I ended up NOT going out that evening but instead stayed in, borrowed a DVD from the hotel's lounge and almost didn't want to check out the next day! Last thing that I was very impressed with is the impeccable service by Richard and Mindi at the front desk who took the trouble to remember my name, greet me with lovely smiles and made me feel at home. Monika at the restaurant was also lovely during breakfast, making sure I had enough tobasco sauce for my Scottish fry up. I'm so glad I found a bit of Edinburgh I can consider home - No.11, see you soon, I shall be back!

Good points: • location - couldn’t be any better. 2 mins walk from train station. As central as could be and only short walk to George Street, Royal Mile and Grassmarket. • staff - couldn’t fault them. Very helpful, polite and attentive. • room - I booked a double but ended up with a junior suite. Not sure if that’s normal, however it was spot on. Huge room on 5th floor with plenty space. Bad points • dated hotel - could do with a money spent on it. Very old and tired. • Noise - incredibly noisy where we were. Not so much during the night, but first thing in the morning. Sounded like 100’s of empty beer bottles being collected and poured into bins constantly. Very annoying and very loud! • Breakfast - not good. Although we booked our room with breakfast, we ended up having ours at The Huxley on 2nd day (end of Princes St), 100x better. Would I stay here again, probably, just for it’s location. However I’d save myself the money and get a room without breakfast.

I'm not a person to be effusive but this is the best hotel I've ever stayed in. Everything was perfect and I cannot think of anything that spoiled it. It made for a beautiful Christmas for us. Every member of staff was so professional and friendly; every piece of decor oozed class; the food was incredible. We loved the toy owl and accompanying picture book as a present for our little girl - we loved the Santa stocking hanging on our door, too. I couldn't thank the staff enough and we will definitely return.
