It was quite a confortable hotel. As other members have already mentioned, there are some staffs who can speak Japanese, so if people having worry about speaking English here can stay here without having any troubles. Staffs are very kind. It is in the good location with the close access to the Powel Street station/Cable car. Maybe it is expensive for a single use person but people who use here for a family or couple or friends, they feel it a good cost.

Hotel is 4 star with reasonable price. The hotel has free wifi in lobby which is stable. However, you could not access free wifi in room, you have to paid around 12 US dollars which is not expensive tough. They have gym room for you to access. Breakfast not included. The hotel has 3 towers with a lot of room in 1 floor, nearly 80-90 rooms. You will find the lobby is a bit crowded for people accessing wifi there and have starbucks. However, the hotel is comfortable and safe to stay. 1 more blocks is Super 8 which the security is not good on that street. You can easily access the downtown mall nearby by turning left. You can access hotel by Bart at Powell street.

Nice hotel and excellent service but bad location location was near the tenderloin district you dont want to walk there late at night lots of drug dealer and homeless. But in the morning and evening i was confortable to walk on the street around (i was using geary Street i think it the best option) But my wife was scare to walk in that neighborhood. room as nespresso machine and hotel is A1 but location is bad

Stayed here before I flew out and had a lovely stay - every staff member I encounted was so kind and attentive. I was upgraded to a King Room as my booking company stuffed up the booking and then there was a slight booking error with the system and someone thought their room was mine knocking and reception were so apologetic and gave me a free dink and food!! So kind. The room was immaculate clean and spacious - one of my best days and definitely recommend it! Location is also walking distance to all the main sights!

The hotel is a city icon with a magnificent lobby. They had their famous gingerbread house out for Christmas which brought in many locals. The rooms were well furnished but as well stayed in the main building (older, I like old places) we could hear everything through the walls. We stay twice and in both rooms we could hear everything. I guess stay in the new tower that they have recently refurbished. The bar is a bit kitch, tropical island style bar complete with a tropical downpour (isn't California in a drought?) full of mid western american tourists loving it. Overall its a lovely hotel but I feel they could up their service levels like adding a turn down serivice to be really considered a 5 star hotel.

Considering this hotel is in the Tenderloin District (well I'd say the boarder of it) it was a pretty decent hotel for an affordable price. The hotel is in one of the best convenient locations which have everything at your doorstep without being too congested or noisy. You have the BART (Powell St Station), the MUNI and Cable Carts within 2 blocks from the hotel. It's also extremely close to shops such as Macy's, Bloomingdale and Nordstrom which is a shoppers dream having everything pretty much at your door step. The only downer would be the slow elevator. There is only one and you can find yourself waiting a while. Another downer is the homeless people around the area but I found that you found this all over San Francisco. Also if you treat them with a little respect they will tend to be friendly back. As a single female traveler I had no issue with this nor felt scared compared to some other areas of Tenderloin. The hotel does have small rooms however I've stayed in much smaller. I also don't tend to spend my entire time in the hotel room so this did not both us at all. The beds were comfortable, linen was clean, the showers had great pressure and were hot. The internet speed was amazingly fast too. Would I stay here again? For sure!! I actually had booked this hotel for 3 nights and had to come back to San Francisco for my last night so I re-booked this hotel for my last day in San Francisco. If I come back I'd definitely stay here again.

Stayed for 6 nights. Did not get housekeeping per our choice. All we needed was towel changes and trash. Room with two double beds was a decent size for 3 ladies. Room cleanliness was a bit lacking. Shower floor had black mold. Shower curtain also had mold which means it wasn't changed before we checked in. I work in the hotel business and would have expected better conditions from a name brand hotel, but cleanliness no matter star rating and brand name shouldn't change. I know this is a smaller property which maybe doesn't have a brand coming to inspect them every quarter, but there' s no way they didn't know shower had mold. Some tilex even would've helped. You can hear people yelling on the street at night and lots of road noise. Again, that was expected because of the location. I think the only thing that would have made the stay better is checking in to a cleaner room with more attention to detail.

I had a great time in SF. My weekend almost got ruined by another guest who stayed in a room adjacent to mine. This individual stole my wallet and caused a scene with his guests while I confronted him regarding the incident. I notified hotel staff who went above and beyond to help me. Long story short I was able to get my wallet with a few missing things but the most important items were still there. The security staff helped out and also the front desk personal. This incident could have changed how I felt about SF but it played out as best possible which I think it's because of the hotel and its staff. Unfortunately there are some individuals who choose to commit crimes while people are enjoying themselves. Overall I had a great time and would recommend the hotel.

I was rather worried as I was not aware that it was very close to the Tenderloin area and thus was not expecting a great stay. However, my perception had changed upon arriving and gave myself a pat on the shoulder for choosing to stay here! Location: They had 2 entrances and the main entrance is only 1-min walk from the BART station - Powell St and outside the main Tram stop. Its so easy and convenient, especially when you are new to the city and unsure of where to go. It is also within walking distance to Chinatown and Fisherman’s Whaft and the main shopping street. There’s homeless people everywhere and if you want to avoid the Tenderloin area, just use the exit by the Turn cafe and you will feel perfectly safe! Room: I love the room and the fact that it is very environmentally friendly - your bathroom lights will be off after 15mins and they provided the shower gel and shampoos from the big bottles. The bed is also very comfortable.

The good: close walk (~1.5 miles) to either Fisherman's Warf or to Union Square which means easy access to entertainment such as Pier 39, Big Bus tours, Alcatraz, Chinatown, Coit Tower, Lombard Street, and the old time Trolley rides. Great food options in the area, especially along Polk Street, which the hotel is on the south end of. The room was unexpectedly VERY quiet despite the hustle of downtown traffic and activity. The bad: hotel's bed was cheap and squeaky, and the shower head produced a small, slow stream of water. So one less star rating on the facility. The ugly: not the hotel's issue, but it's in an area of town where there are lots of homeless and trash on the streets. With that said, the homeless folk never once bothered us or panhandled etc. And if you don't intend to walk 4-5 miles each day to visit the tourist sites, including hills, then you may want to stay closer to the pier.

My USA trip with my mom was the first one, and well expectedly we were looking for some more experience. I have spent many many days trying to choose which hotel we would stay in. Fooled by the address to be at Geary St, the location is not at all at Union Square, it is considered in Tenderloin area which the locals have been saying it is not in a safe area. Someone from TA did made this comment, one of them, i recalled. So there you go it is not in a safe environment. For a first time traveller, STAY AWAY !!! If you are looking for a budget, they have more selection down near Powell St i think. Another thing is, the hotel room looks sophisticated, but not at all it isn't !!! The floor was following the hills of SFO. You need to hike even in the room ? The bed was comfortable but, since the floor wasn't even, therefore i have to sleep in a horizontal way, and in a weird way totally not pleasant but the staff were all amazing anyways

this hotel is great if you want to be close to union square shopping and don't mind walking a bit - it's far quieter and less crushed than some of the hotels even a few blocks further south and west. bear in mind, though, if you're taking public transportation and have luggage - the closest bart/muni station is powell, and it's a six block walk uphill through powell street pedestrian crowds crowds to get to the hotel. once you do arrive, however, the hotel is really a respite - the rooms, while small (normal for san francisco) are very comfortable and quiet, almost cocoon-like. there are actually two restaurants attached to the hotel. i think they try to provide great service, but are understaffed during busy periods which leads to some confusion. otherwise, great experience.

I didn't know what to expect from the Marine Club. After stating there they exceeding my expectations. First the positives: friendly staff, free breakfast, free happy hour drinks, free laundry and wifi service . Free internet , in other words it's not a place that tries to nickel and dime you. Had a very comfortable room. Also had a temperature control a/c which was a nice feature. They also provide detergent if you want to do laundry... And it's free. No quarters for using machines. I also enjoyed the location. Right in the heart of union square. Walgreens, Starbucks, 7,11 about 100 steps from front of hotel. The fitness center is also free. It's actually a health club right next door to the hotel. Plenty of machines and weights for those into working out. Also easy to get to from San Fran airport. I took the Bart line to Powell street. Went right where the trolley line starts. Went up 5 blocks and sutter street is right there. I really can't find much in the way of negatives. The only one is being a military club I couldn't get the membership to the club membership. Also be advised proper attire to the restaurant. Made mistake of going to breakfast in workout attire. No big deal just went back and put on collared shirt and khaki shorts. Also can't wear hats to restaurant even for happy hour. No big deal . I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a hotel not a major chain. I would definitely stay again when visiting San Francisco.

This was my third time staying at this hotel and the quality has improved a great deal: they have replaced the ugly and uncomfortable nylon blankets with white cotton ones. The room is now also cleaner and the bathroom got new appliances. The rooms are very small if you book a single room, but the bathroom is comfortable enough. All in all, it is money well-spent, especially when it is right in safe Chinatown that turns quiet late at night for you to have a decent sleep. The only problem was I could never get on Wifi in my room. There is also a tv with CNN in the room which is important for you to catch up with the latest while not at home. I would stay there again, unless they raise the price.

this small hotel is in a great location. right next to a starbucks and a short walk to powell and market. the cons are old, springy mattresses, flat pillows, and no shampoo. we had a great view of the curran theater and 2 big windows that open all the way. great for ventilation and people watching! we were in room 403 with 2 double beds only agoda. the sink is outside the toilet/shower room which is great if you have 3 teenage girls getting ready at the same time in the morning. i would highly recommend this hotel.

Great choice for a hotel. Staff was friendly. Was close to Union Square, Powell Station (if you want to try the cable car), our family walked to Lombard Street which was 15 blocks from the hotel, (we didn't mind the walk). San Francisco is such a nice city, and this hotel will be a great choice for your stay. It comes with a super small kitchen, has a mini ref, a microwave oven, pretty much all we needed for our short stay in SanFo.

Located in Sutter Street, 2 blocks away from Union Square. Close to Shopping, Restaurants and many stores. San Francisco famous Tram ride is in Powell street, next to the hotel. Hotel is very traditional theme , Rooms are small , however they are clean , neat and tidy. Bathroom is congested and it will be a challenge for some one slightly oversize, to use it . I am at 5’11” , couldn’t sit in the commode comfortably as knees were hitting the sink cup board. No in- room fridge, how ever tea/coffee facility is available. Surrounding can be noisy so as the room, due to traffic and pedestrians Check in & Check out process is quick & efficient. Staff are friendly & helpful.

The St. Francis has served visitors to the City for over 100 years and is a great hotel. We stayed in a room with two double beds on the fourth floor of one of the two original wings. The room was good size and well maintained. There was a seperate alcove with desk for a computer and the web. More closet space than you need. There was a little noise from the street, but it was Powell Street and expected. Staff was very friendly. I remember the old lobby bar of 30 years ago and would like to see it back.

I seriously can't wait to book my next stay at The Clift! Excellent location just a couple blocks from Union Square, superb customer service. There is nothing worse than staying in a hotel and having a horribly uncomfortable bed; with that being said my bed at the clift was so comfortable and I had the best nights sleep ever. Centrally located to shopping and nightlife. The Redwood Room was heaving with people but I never heard a peep in my 3rd floor room. Room was a comfortable size and nicely decorated. My only iffy spot was the bathroom which needed some updating. The Mini bar was packed with perfect and clever essentials. I forgot a couple items and house keeping was uber prompt to bring them to me. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend you stay here when you cone to the gorgeous city of San Francisco.

Easy 10 min walk to Moscone Convention center and a block from the Powell Street Bart Station, Muni Line, and Cable Car Turnaround at Market. Older Hotel with upgraded modern facilities complete with interesting artwork on the walls. Beautiful lounge which would make a great reception arena for most medium size events. Staff friendly and very helpful Price about half of the huge chain Hotels a few blocks away. Beds are comfortable with impeccable maid service. Nice modern workout room with free weights, towels, water, and aerobic machines. Overall a pleasantly surprising experience.!
