Hotels near St Giles' Cathedral

Fantastic historic building, the former home of The Scotsman newspaper. Absolutely lovely room, 902, which I think was an upgrade for us. Freestanding tub in its own tower room (a few steps up from the rest of the room) had an amazing panoramic view from St. Giles all the way to Calton Hill. Room had high ceilings, gorgeous lined, floor-length woolen curtains and matching headboard, a fantastic regular bathroom with glass shower enclosure. Our only complaint: Not enough time to enjoy it all! We had another commitment that evening and were not able to arrive until after 10:00. Next morning had to catch 8:30 train to London--such a shame! Breakfast buffet starts at 7:30 and is wonderful. All in all, we want to return!

We had a great time in this apartment. For a group of 5pax, this was perfect for us because it has 2 rooms with 2 bathrooms each and one common room which you can covert the sofa to sofa bed. It has clean kitchen, washing machine and dryer. The staff was super accommodating and even gave us free cereals, bottles of milk and a loaf of bread :) Though there was a strip bar few walks away, it's no big deal because it was not vulgar ( Bouncers were discreet ). At night, you can sleep peacefully because the area is quiet. There's a big supermarket, bus station and restaurants few minutes away from the apartment. The location is not too far from Royal Mile or Princes St. The " walking" is bearable, maybe 15mins walk. I will definitely come back here again because for 2 rooms for its price, I don't think I'll get this deal elsewhere.

Great! Simply Great for an affordable price! Hotel management knows their differences compared to other city hotels, and they are trying their best to cover up those differences. The room was wonderful with all the amenities provided with regard to its price. Layout of the room was good too, not too narrow, and the wide bathroom. Also the view from the windows was open and freshing. Making you feel that you are in Edinburgh. Good Wi-Fi as well. Breakfast is same in every and each hotel, traditional scottish. Lifts were reliable and quick. It might seem a little further up the city centre compared to others but actually just 7 mins walk and we were on The mile end. Car parking is limited, but the street is available until 8:30 in the mornings. Only few stains in the bathtub is the negative thing we could say. The toileteries were wonderful btw. I wouldn't think for a minute if I 'd go to Edinburgh again.

Loved the entire experience! Large rooms with all the amenities a traveler could hope for - clean, spacious & fully equipped kitchen! Staff was fantastic & receptive to all questions & requests. Location in old Town couldn't be better - right across the street from the St Giles cathedral, easy walk to the Castle & steps (many:) down to Waverly train station. Also we used the hop off/hop on buses - great & easy system! Green bus is a live tour & a must! Lastly very close to several restaurants & pubs.

We booked a three nights stay over New year to celebrate my husband's birthday. We had a King size deluxe room with a great view of the castle. All the staff were very helpful and friendly and assisted us with any information we needed on the area to enhance our stay. The breakfast had a choice of continental or a hot breakfast items and was continuously being monitored so that items were replenished. The hotel was within easy walking access to all the main city centre attractions and shops, as well as restaurants and bars.

I arrived at 7.30am after a 30 hour flight and on arrival said I knew I was exceptionally early and if I could leave my bags. The staff insisted on arranging my room to be cleaned so I could shower and relax. I also had a booking the second night as a twin share under another friends name so they arranged the rooms to be the same. truely the best service I've yet to receive, especially as they proactively try to see where they can make you stay more convenient and enjoyable. The room size is very generous, with all the comforts such as pillow selection, comfortable bed, nice bathroom with plenty of hot water. The location can not be beat - on the royal mile, near the princess at bridge for those who love to shop. I've stayed in many 5 star hotels and this trumps most - and is only rated 4 star which I struggle to understand. All round exceptional, can't fault it and will be staying here again!!

The moment we walked in the front door, we knew we were going to love this hotel. We had the great pleasure of being greeted by Peter Binnie, who was the afternoon manager for our entire stay. He was friendly, engaging and made some great suggestions for places to visit. Even more impressive, as my husband and I were wandering down one of the streets that Peter had recommended to us, who should we bump into, but Peter and, rather than rush past and pretend he hadn't noticed us, he stopped for a chat and pointed out a couple of more things that we might enjoy. Our room was spotless, the beds comfy and the breakfast generous, with probably the best view in Edinburgh, and we found all of the staff to be friendly and helpful, but Peter was an absolute standout. We would definitely book here, again, if we return.

It is a lovely hotel undoubtedly but not without issues. Couples midweek stay. At check in, they thought the package with agoda did not include breakfast and took multiple attempts to address issue. We got breakfast but were not on list. Had eggs benedict for breakfast. Nitpicking but 5 star poached eggs should not be solid, lukewarm and have a thin hollandaise. Gym lacks an adidas step which I would have thought any decent boutique gym should have esp with current fitness trends. Shower pressure from rain shower was less tropical storm and more November all day drizzle. Shower head was better but not lots. Products in bathroom nicely packaged but did not seem luxurious to use. The mandarin body moisturiser had bits of pulp in which was pretty gross on the skin and had to be washed off. Room was nicely decorated from Missoni days. Blokes in kilts touristy Scottish touch though weird they didn't even fake Scottish accents. One of them hit on my husband in case any women are wondering... Didn't dine at the restaurant so can't comment on that. Thought bar was overrated. Maybe nicer at weekend when busier. They do give you nibbles but the cocktail I had was the most disgusting of my life - can't remember name but with amaretto and cacao which from description should not have been main flavours but bitter cacao really was and was not cheap enough that it didn't annoy me.

this was our first trip to edinburgh and everyone we talked to told us to stay near the royal mile for the sights. the location of this hotel was exactly what we wanted. near to the royal mile but also near the restaurant area. we stayed 3 nights at the hotel. when we first arrived, the girl who checked us in was great. she made us feel very welcome and pointed out the different possible sites for tourists. the hotel is in good condition with new carpets and quite clean. the room was spacious and had everything i would want. the bed was quite comfortable and large. the bathroom had both a shower and bath (which i like). water ran hot and strong. the internet was quite good as well. overall we had a great experience at this hotel. it was one of the cheaper options that we found, but this is not a budget hotel, this is great value for money and i will stay there again when i return.

I was there three nights. Got there early for check in but they had a room ready so let me check in there and then. Room was a great size - really large for a hotel room. Location is right round the corner from Grassmarket so brilliant for unique little places and bars and restaurants and a nice walk up to the Royal Mile. I ate twice in the hotel and was impressed with the quality of the food. My only complaints would be that the heating wasn't great - didn't seem to make much of a difference when I had it on. Also, the shower was too hot and I couldn't seem to change the temperature - close to scalding temperature. I did let them know at front desk and they said they would have a look but I didn't notice any difference. Great size bathroom with a bath and a separate shower and the toilet itself completely separate. Staff were friendly and helpful. The pool was small but cute! I would happily stay there again.

We arrived at the hotel early about 11am, whereby the check in only at 2pm but the receptionist with last name Ibrahim she arranged a room for us within 15mins of waiting. While waiting we was also served with coffee. I only booked standard double room but our room was upgraded to suite. Furthermore since we arived Eve of Christmas there was welcome chocolate n a card in the room. It was my husband's birthday so I have been emailing Alyaa one of the worker to arrange some cake n small celebration plus a Christmas dinner, she was really amazing she got all this arranged with no cost n she was so friendly. We stayed there 3nights n we really enjoyed. Near to airport n hop n off bus. Near to all restaurants. 1 of the day we was late to breakfast we requested to send to the room n the staff was so good n it was sent to our room even though the request was very late. There was also complimentary of card n chocolate for my husband for his birthday. We Will Go back for sure to same hotel.

The hotel is rather centrally located, within close proximity to the castle and the royal mile (though need to go up and down slope). We like the modern and nice design in the room. The room was clean and large with plenty of walking space. Though the flooring uses budget wood board, rather than typical carpeted flooring, it looks pretty new and comfortable. What we liked best is the huge and well-designed bathroom with the right water pressure and temperature.

The Inn Place was a lovely place to stay for my first trip to Edinburgh. The room was fabulous and clean. The location was 2 minutes from the Royal Mile and 5 mins from Princes Street. It was a beautiful walk to either and had lots to do around. It also beside the best Harry Potter shop I have seen in a while which was a huge bonus. I only had one let down when there and that was that we asked for an early check-in as we were headed to the rugby and it gives the option on this site to request an arrival time, which unfortunately wasn't actually accommodated for. Other than that it was a beautiful stay.

Rooms are utilitarian. Modern hotel with very small bathroom. Great location with an easy walk through the park to The Royal Mile and Edunburgh Castle. Taxi to Waverley Station or main bus station only about £6. Best thing is the fantastic breakfast buffet and the fact that they provide sealable plastic containers to take food items away if you wish. They also provide take away coffee cups. Never seen this before . Very generous

I've stayed at this lovely hotel in the past, and I really didn't need a reason to book again, but if you are attending many of the comedy events during Fringe season then this Hotel is Location, Location, Location with a 2 minute walk from George Square where so many events take place, and only a 4 minute walk in the other direction from the Royal Mile. The shower is one of the best I have experienced.

We stayed in Fraser Suites for 2 nights in October. The Hotel is ideally situated in a quiet street close to St. Giles Cathedral and about 10mins walk to the castle. We arrived by bus from the airport not realising that the hotel runs a courtesy shuttle bus service, but the walk from the bus station to the hotel was only about 15 mins. Fraser Suites is a grand but modern and well appointed hotel. Our room was beautifully decorated and well equipped with a small kitchenette included. The bed was comfortable and the heating system was quiet and efficient (no noisy air con / heating fan to put up with). We ate breakfast at the hotel on the second day but the cafe next door is also a good choice after 09:00. The hotel breakfast was very good with a reasonable choice on offer, with real orange juice and real freshly brewed filter coffee. We would definitely recommend Fraser Suites and would stay there again on our next trip.
