A grand old queen of a resort”
Built in the early 1960's, I think, which is why I am guessing this hotel only t Rates 4 stars. They have done an amazing job keeping it maintained and modern, tho there are tiny signs it is an older resort. But for me, old hotels, when maintained as well as this one is, are beautiful places, treasures! Big beautiful lush gardens, immaculate private beach, a large meticulously clean restaurant in the main building, and a stylishly simple and very comfortable restaurant at the beach, the menu at both delightful, the food excellent, with a well planned wine menu, But the best part of Independence Beach Resort, for me, is the staff. They are so charming, and extremely eager to please, but not ingratiating for tips, as you find in many 5 star properties around the world. The staff here are proud of their jobs working in this elegant antique of a resort, so they go well out of their way to be helpful and accommodating. Woth staff so friendly and eager to please, and the immense amount of work it must take to keep this grande dame of a resort in perfect working order, my most admiring praise is insufficient for the excellent management this hotel must have. I have traveled the world, but have never found a better place to rest, and relax. The Sea Villa rooms, and Premier Villas are worth the extra money, with very private balconies. In all things that matter to me, as a very experienced traveler, this is a 5 star property, from top to bottom.

We stayed at the Independence in January 2013 during our Cambodia tour and we can definetly recommend it. Probably the best hotel in Sihanoukville with a lot of history. We went to Sihanoukville as a stopover on the way back from Ko Rung and would not go there again, Sihanoukville is full of junkies and backpackers so that we didn't bother to go out much and stayed inside the vast hotel grounds (large pool, private beach). The architecture is really sixties style so probably not to everyones taste. Try to get a room on the 7th floor, the views are awesome. Staff is very nice and efficient, if you need a taxi (i.e. to Phnom Penh) ask reception, the guys got us a very good deal.

Wonderful stay at Independence Hotel Sihanoukville”
A nice resort with full facilities (e.g. swimming pool, own independence beach, good taste seafood) which can enjoy your whole holiday in the hotel. The beach was impressive due to the fine sand and few people playing at the beach. It seems the beach is our own private beach (So great!) Also the hotel provided excellent services: upgraded to President Suite when the room facilities can't be fixed during the hot seasons. The only pity is that no spa available in the hotel now. In general, the hotel is worth staying during your holiday in Sihanoukville.

Best hotel with best beach in Sihanoukville”
Independence hotel is about 5 kilometres from Sihanoukville and have free shuttle to town. Yuk-tuk cost about 3-5 USD from Sihanoukville to hotel (they asked 5 USD, but ussualy agree for 3 USD). We walked to Victory, Sokha, Serendipity and Ocheteaul (very crowdy) beaches and I can say, that Independence beach is the best (clean, secured about 200-300 metres). Breakfast at hotel have a fairly good selection of dishes, but nothing special. Prices at hotel restaurants are much higher than in Sihanoukville town. Hotel offer massage, but prices are very high (1 hour full body massage cost 22 USD, in Sihanoukville town - 6 USD). Generaly I can highly recomend this hotel, if You want to stay at Sihanoukville.

Great stay at Independence Hotel”
I like the Independence Hotel because it is a beautiful location at a better price than say the Sokha Beach Hotel. We want a nice place with a nice beach and facilities for a good price since we have children and are always watching our money. The Independence Hotel is newly renovated and has an interesting history that goes back to the 1960's when Jackie Kennedy came their and a dark history when the Khmer Rouge used the pool to murder hundreds of people in the 1970's (that was the old pool which is a pond for geese now). They have a new bigger pool now. Don't worry, we never saw ghost or anything weird. We always have a good time there and would recommend it to others looking for a nice hotel at a good price.

It is true, the independence hotel is a bit isolated from the city. But do you really need to go out of the resort and into the city? Thats the question I have asked myself. The resort has everything, a very nice private beach, a really beautiful swimming pool, restaurants, fitness centre and a very friendly staff. I even had my private hot tub at my premier vila. Really good value for money. It was low season though and i received an upgrade as well. I especially liked the modern french design of the hotel buildings. Very stylish. In the end I have spent a lot of time more in the resort than i had expected i would. If you like to go to the city, which i did a few times the 3 days i was there, then you can use the free shuttle service of the Hotel. Conclusion: a beautiful resort with great facilities and nice staff. I can recommend it to you.

there is no better place to stay in sihanoukville, the independence hotel is surrounded by forest, and is adjacent to a magnificent private coastline, complete with a beautiful beach and lots of rock pools. sunset views are spectacular. the hotel is about a $4 tuktuk ride from the restaurants and main tourist beaches of sihanoukville, downside: the hotel is pricey, and there are no alternative places to eat within walking distance.

athmosphere was perfect, layout nice, rooms in new wing very big and well planned. breakfast was very good and a lot of choices. everything was very clean and service very friendly and helpful. prices in hotel restaurant etc.. very reasonable. i think best place to stay in sihanoukville, beach area was cleanest i have ever seen. excellent job independence hotel!

Beautiful beach resort outside of city center”
We've stayed here at the end of a three week trip through Laos and Cambodia to simply relax and lay back and the Independence hotel is just the perfect choice for this. The hotel itself is about 50 years old but the Sea Pavillon buildings are more recent with nice and large rooms, comnfortable beds and a beautiful bathroom. The highlight of the hotel though is definitely its beach with wihte sand and clear waters. Be aware that it is quite far out of town, so you'll have to catch a tuktuk (4USD). The hotel also provides a shuttle service but it runs only a couple of times a day and was not very reliable once delayed and once they didn't turn up). Breakfast presents a vast choice of Asian and Western food, otherwise the food in the hotel is ok but definitely too expensive compared to what you can find arount the area. There were some construction activities going but our room was far enough away for us not to be bothered, but we've heard several other guests complain about it. So make sure you get a room away from the noise.

Good value at the Eco Cabana's”
The Independence Hotel has excellent facilities and location. Great beach and scenery. We stopped going there after they remodeled and significantly raised their prices. Now that they built a little area of Eco cabins that are lower in price we can start going back there. The lodges are nice, but small. But you are on a great beach with a great pool. The Spa is nice too. The breakfast buffet and their hamburgers are the best. Very fun time.

The historic Independence Hotel was better than our expectations. The spacious rooms have floor to ceiling windows with lovely ocean views from the upper floors. The hotel is situated outside of the city in a private wooded area. A free shuttle service goes into town 4 or 5 times daily. The drive takes about 10 minutes. There is a private beach and a decent size pool and also a pleasant boardwalk along the waterfront. The restaurant offers a large variety of choices for all meals. Another smaller restaurant is located down near the beach. They are currently constructing an elevator down to the beach for guests who might have difficulty using the stone steps. We stayed only 2 days here which was not long enough to explore all that the hotel has to offer. I hope that we will be able to return again.

the 2nd best hotel in sihanoukville, although this one has the much much better view. pros: independence beach great for a romantic getaway. staff very friendly. rooms are nice, showers and bath tubs good. view at the main wing (normal deluxe room is the best in sihanoukville). overall more value for money than sokha.

Brilliant experience”
We loved our stay at the Independence Hotel. The beach is gorgeous and perfect for spending lazy mornings with the kids. The buffet breakfast was superb. Rooms were beautiful and the proximity to the beach via the beach walk was fabulous. The hotel also has electric cars or "buggies" to shuttle guests to/from the main areas and rooms. The beachfront restaurant had a great menu with reasonable prices. The hotel is far from the rest of Sihanoukville's services, but runs regular shuttles into town.

Hotel and staff made my trip one to remember.”
This is the first trip where the hotel has made my trip. Everything about The Independence Hotel was perfect. The highlight of the hotel was definitely the staff, every single one of them willing to help whenever needed, show friendliness when called for, and professionalism at every step. The next best thing was something we didn't discover until our third day when walking around the grounds. It was a restaurant on the beach with the roaring ocean kissing the deck. We spent many hours there eating, drinking and socialising. Everything else was top notch, the beautiful and friendly massage girls, the relaxing bar, and the food in both restaurants. They'll even serve up food in the bar if you want. The room was also perfect, very big, always kept clean, and everything you'd expect in a modern hotel.

The Independence hotel is set away from the crowds with its own private beach. Because of this it avoids the hassle and commercialism of the public beaches in Sihanoukville. The staff are very friendly and the hotel provides and intimate atmosphere as it is not a large hotel however it is very spacious. Check out their website.

A grand hotel in a nice quiet location”
Independence hotel is the oldest modern hotel in Sihanoukville. It has gone and is going through a modernization, but still sufficient for standards today. The room was big, with ample space inside and nice facilities within the room. Pool was good as was the breakfast. The hotel provide a free shuttle bus to the centre but its not a consistent schedule. Other than that a nice walk down to your own private beach is a plus. All in all a nice hotel and worth going again.

We spent two nights at the Hotel. The historic Independence Hotel was better than our expectations. The spacious rooms we stay has lovely ocean views . Great place to keep away from the crowds”
We had a good time at the Independence Hotel and I wouldn't hesitate going back there. It is at least 10mn ride away (by tuktuk) from Sihanoukville. The hotel has a free shuttle to/from Sihanoukville but not frequent (5 times a day). It has a private beach but you need to go down quite a few steps. Lovely restaurant to watch the sunset go down just by the beach. Free internet in the room and in the business centre. Great for kids as the hotel has games: table tennis, football table, kayaks. It is a 4star hotel but the hotel is not always well kept and it shows its age. But with the Agoda rate, it is definitely worth it. I really enjoyed the seaview and the room was very bright (we were on the 5th floor). They have some newer accommodation (villas) and we were originally booked there but we asked to change as we thought it was too far from the main hotel. ALso the villa offered did not have any seaview, though it was beautifully decorated and very modern.

A fantastic hotel!”
As we travelled in the low season we were just about the only people staying here for the first couple of nights which was slightly strange but did mean we had very attentive staff. The hotel is really lovely despite it's slightly gory past. It has been renovated to a high standard and is the perfest place to relax for a few days. Sihanoukville itself is billed as the beach resort in Cambodia but we found it tacky and the main beaches were disappointing. It was great to retreat to the peace and quiet of The Independance Hotel!
