You are on the river. I got the most expensive room and it was comfortable and spacious. Staff including guides are friendly and helpful. Food is really good. I'll be back and spend more time next time.

Will recommend for the price ”
Location is a bit further out than other accomodation in TukTuk but our room faced the lake and the staff were helpful in helping us transport our luggage from our previous lodging. Had a miscommunication with the staff regarding bike rental (we did not rent the bike for a day but were asked to pay for it because we told the staff that maybe we wanted to rent it) Shower worked well and room was clean but balcony could be cleaner, there were ants on the floor.

Excellent, Relaxing and value for money”
We were apprehensive at first because we have never been to Medan let alone Lake Toba! Every step of the way is a surprise. The ferry across to Tuk-tuk took us to the doorstep of Mas Cottages, We were met by our most friendly host, Jelita!... The food from the cottage restaurant is yummy.The price of our dinner is reasonable. you must try the grill fish and gado-gado and salad and the special Samosir friend chicken! Jelita and team of staff are so helpful. Their facilities are basic but they are always trying their best to make our experience a memorable one. We are already thinking of our next trip there....

Best location in Samosir. You might not think so at first but if what you crave is peace, quiet, serenity and views to die for... this is the ONLY choice. Let's not fool ourselves... nothing on Samosir represents a luxury hotel. BRING YOUR OWN wine, (+ glasses), biscuits, snacks, shampoo, slippers etc. Food served in the restaurant is OK. Best stick to their very tasty breakfast noodles rather than expecting a full-on American job. Pancakes, omelettes etc also good. Local sweet milk coffee is fab. Order the milk on the side so you can sweeten to taste. Place can feel a bit remote if shopping is your thing and you can't ride one of their motor-scooter rentals. Bur after doing all that stuff, it was a treat to come "home" to Mas. Staff were nothing but charming and cheerful. A truly MEMORABLE stay with the wife and teenage "kids". Not for young families.

If you are looking for a place with middle-priced range with clean and new facilities, you can choose Mas Cottage. The staffs are helpful and friendly, they have a restaurant operating until 11pm facing Lake Toba where you can chill there with your friends. I stayed in a newly-renovated family room with kitchen. Hot water is available as well, which is very important because the temperature is low and it's really cold there. No fan and air conditioner as it is not needed. No mosquitoes found in the room. It also provided car rental services and boat service that pick you up right at the hotel.

Great place to forget the world”
We had an absolutely wonderful experience. The suites all had lakefront access except some which were on the top of the hill. Some people might want an overview of the lake. The waters at Mas looked cleaner than those of the other cottages. Probably because it is more populated on the TukTuk town side (Mas is further away from the Tuktuk town). There isn't a pool here, because you already are in one. We had a wonderful experience except for that one hotel staff that can get a little irritable if you ask her a few too many questions. She also seemed to like caucasians more than asians.. I don't know, Could just be me. Otherwise 4.5/5!!

I really enjoy staying at Mas Cottages. I stayed in a traditional Batak house, and I had a wonderful view of the lake. I could listen to the waves all night long. I would definitely recommend this place.

A small paradise ”
What a lovely surprise Ma's cottages was. Three levels of accomadation , we stayed in a Batak house which is very basic but great for backpackers and as you are outside most of the time you only need to go in to sleep. Mattrice on the floor in the loft. There are two more types of accomadation . So it's up to you depending on what you are looking for. All are on the water except the big family one but what a view. The ferry drops you at the door. It is about a 25min stroll into TUKTUK or you can hire a motor bike from Ma's . I was worried it was out of town but the lake was so clean and there was no motor sports going on so very quiet and peaceful. The restaurant is 75 steps up and what a view! The food is great the staff are a joy too. I recommend this as a lovely stay, loved it will go back.
