Best location and service hotel”
Anyone like to stay a hotel where situated in the downtown place of Yangon, May Shan hotel is your destination. It is closest Sule pagoda & a mosque. Scott market & a famous restaurant are on the way in 15 minutes. Hotel's staffs are very friendly. A big generator is placed in front of the hotel. An elevator works completely for high floors. Bread, eggs, coffee/tea, bananas with honey are served for your breakfast.

Awesome service”
The staff welcomed us with open arms and helped us with everything! We got help to book accommodation in other parts of Myanmar and to find specific locations in Yangon. The breakfast was ok, nothing more. An egg, two toasts and some the/coffee. But it was a little to get you going at least and it is included which is great. We stayed here three times during our holiday in Myanmar. The rooms we stayed in the two first times didn't have any windows which was great as the traffic noise from outside was not as bad plus it was easy to sleep without any daylight. Aircon works perfect and the beds was very comfy! We had a great stay at May Shan and would definitely stay there again!

Prime location, great staff and service”
stayed here for four nights after traveling around myanmar for four weeks. had stayed at three other hotels outside the downtown area throughout my trip and i found this hotel the best value for money and location. i was surprised how much i liked this place. it is a 6-story "chinese style" hotel so the rooms and hall ways are tight and pretty devoid of personality. but the room was spotless, the location could not have been better and the staff were fantastic and supremely helpful. the one downside is the lack of windows in most off the rooms. i paid a little more for a room with a window but i still didn't really have a window. i had six clear glass blocks in the wall that let in light. there was also a small shuttered window that you could actually open to the outside but the view was of the incredibly ugly and messy back sides of the neighboring buildings so i never opened it. i used this hotel as a base to explore yangon and for that it was excellent. the location allowed me to easily come back to the hotel two or three times a day to escape the heat, drop off some souvenirs and and change my eternally sweat-drenched clothes. and when you need to take a taxi back to the hotel all you have to say is "sule" and the drivers know exactly where to take you because sule paya is right out the front door.

Friendly staff runs a small, clean hotel”
I was quite pleased with the May Shan Hotel overall, and would stay there again without hesitation. The location was ideal for my purposes. The hotel was clean, and the staff very friendly and helpful. My room was quite small, though adequate; but I'd prefer a separate shower stall so the whole bathroom would not get wet when taking a shower. The only meal offered is breakfast (which is free of charge). I was offered a choice of tea or coffee, but not a choice of foods. I am Caucasian (obviously not Asian), and thus was brought a "European/Western" breakfast--a fried egg, toast (on white bread), and bananas. I noticed that Asian guests were brought an Asian breakfast that included noodles. (Presumably I could have requested an Asian breakfast instead of a Western one.) I utilized the hotel's laundry service and was pleased with the result. Wi-fi is available (free of charge) in the hotel lobby, but not in the rooms. The speed of the Internet connection varied, but was generally adequate for email and light web-surfing. Two computers with wired Internet connections are available in the lobby as well; a fee is charged for their use.

Great Value for Yangon”
We arrived about 4:30 am in the morning on an overnight bus from Kalaw and the man at the front desk kindly let us stretch out on the big sofas in the lobby where we had a great sleep for 3 hours. We had booked all of our hotels and guest houses in Myanmar in advance through Radiant Tours in Yangon(highly recommended)with the exception of this one since the price through Agoda was less than what the travel agent could do. We paid $69/night, by far our most expensive place in Myanmar but relatively inexpensive for Yangon. The staff were great (which is a given in Myanmar), the location was great (next to the Sule Paya and walking distance to the Scott Market), and our room with window and private bathroom was great (one of the newly renovated ones on the the 6th floor). Other guests were less pleased about the older rooms on the lower floors so try to score a room on the 6th. A typical eggs and toast breakfast was included.

Good location hotel with helpful and good service.”
The hotel has a very good location right in town with walking distance to restaurants and shopping area, like Yangon Chinatown. Although the hotel is a little small with most rooms without windows, but the room as well as the pillows and blankets are well cleaned. The hotel staff is very helpful especially if you are travelling to Yangon for first time. She can arrange a good guide and car upon request. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a proper hotel with reasonable price to stay in Yangon.

Ideal downtown location”
May Shan Hotel is a clean, safe, inexpensive, centrally located hotel in Yangon. Staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms with windows are more expensive, but work the extra cost. Rooms without windows are fine, but feel stuffy. The location of this hotel across from Sule Pagoda and near the large market make it easy to walk to sights you want to see.

Clean, polished, and Great Value for Yangon.”
Don't expect a bargain in Yangon ! But for what's available, I recommend this hotel highly. I was shocked at how wrong some bad reviews on this site are. Yes the room is smaller than average, yes it has no window, but the 'standard' mid- to budget hotel in Yangon is a dump compared to this.

Good hotel, great location”
We used this hotel twice (see other review). We found it central to places of interest, close to restaurants and the cinema. The staff/owners were extremely helpful and friendly. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting a reasonably priced hotel in a central area of Yangon. Second visit we got a room with a window. There are some rooms being built on the 7th floor which will soon be available. Great views from the rooftop. Breakfast was rather limited but okay.

Clean Family-Run Hotel”
We stayed in May Shan Hotel from 3.11.2012 to 8.11.2012. It is family run and is very clean. Offer daily simple breakfast and free internet connection at sitting hall. Counter family staff speak good English and offer good services and advices. Hotel is located near to China town and shopping bazaars. No bicycles and motor cycles are allowed in the city and there seem to have more taxi and private cars on the city roads. Some of the taxi can be very old and run down without air-conditioner. Food and beer are cheap and plentiful around the hotel. For the price, it is certainly very cheap and convenient to stay at May Shan. But remember to book early.

Decent guesthouse in downtown Yangon”
if you're after a place to stay in downtown yangon then this is a good option for backpackers. if you can get past the clinical, dated chinese decor the beds are decent, the air con works and the staff are pleasant. area-wise it's a real buzz although we did prefer northern yangon as it's a bit less hectic (especially if you've just arrived in the country). do watch out for the hawker who often hangs around outside the hotel and helps with bags. he runs a bit of an 'unofficial' side show offering sightseeing/travel tours - he's not the most trustworthy chap we encountered in yangon!

best location to roam around so far”
May Shan is undoubtedly in one of the best locations to roam around Yangon. Sule Pagoda and Mahabandoola Garden are 2mins walk. You can have photo op at the rooftop ang have those as your backdrop. It's 15mins walk to Chinatown and Bogyoke Aung San Market. When it comes to room, it's clean and comfortable. It's equipped w/ aircon, tv, T &B, and you can borrow hairdryer. That's all that matters. Don't expect a 5-star room. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Breakfast are super basic but enough to give you energy while touring the city

Friendly, helpful staff and a good location”
the positives are that the may shan hotel is located in the very heart of yangon, near the sule pagoda and within walking distance of many good markets and restaurants. also, the staff are friendly and helpful and speak good english. the negatives are that the room we shared was tiny, had no windows and housekeeping forgot to clean it the first day. the breakfast is basic (coffee, juice, bread, a banana and two eggs)and is the same every day. the wifi is so bad that i was unable to download anything and had to wait for a long time for the email to appear, then it would constantly disconnect. however, it is good value for money, as it is less expensive than most of the hotels in the center of the city.

Decent hotel in the very city center”
Small, but perfectly clean rooms which are modestly equipped. Breakfast also modest. On Myanmar quite fast internet. Overall, I would stay there again with no doubt. If the hotel was anywhere else their pricing would not be competitive at all. But since it is in Myanmar, where hotels are extremely overpriced, May Shan hotel is a great choice, especially in this location.

Very Impressive in Service and Responsibility”
We (5 persons) arrived to hotel at about 08:30 pm. but the manager told us, he didn't get any message of our booking (3 rooms) from agoda. Fortunately, Hotel Manager is very nice, kind, polite and high responsibilty, he took us survey to find a new hotel and give the useful information. As seen, the May Shan Hotel looks clean and warm, the service counter is ready to service, the hotel is very near the Sule where the center of downtown.

Lovely hotel and friendly service”
High building of the hotel is near Sule pagoda in downtown zone of yangon with must facilities of a big generator and an elevator. Guests will not worry about walking up higher floor and stay in the darkness all night. Attractive places are very near in a short walk such Sule pagoda, a Hugh mosque, the Scott market and a famous restaurant. Breakfast: bread, coffee&tea&honey, fried eggs, bananas is good taste and enough for fulfill energy.

Efficent hotel with tiny rooms but good location”
we stayed two nights in the May Shan Hotel. The hotel is efficent and rather uncharming but has a good location. We ware lucky to have a room with a window but the sight into the courtyard was more than disgusting. All surrounding houses seem to get of their waste by just littering everything into the small courtyard. That was gross to see. The room was tiny and just enough space to live in. Breakfast rather simple. The hotels in Yangon city should really improve and provide better value for money.

Very heart location and warmly welcome ”
The owner is very nice and very helpful for us in order to book the hotel hotel/taxi/and all shows in Yangon with reasonable price. The room is quite small but clear. We can see the Sule Pagoda from the window which is so nice. This location is not far from Scott's market so you can enjoy shopping as much as you can by walk. The morning breakfast is o.k., the owner isn't mind if any guests need some more bread or some extra banana for their long journey. I will book this little hotel again for next coming.

reasonable price and nice staff”
The Hotel is at the center of Yangon and just minutes walk to Sule Pagoda and Scot Market. The room is clean and the AC works perfectly despite the heat of April. One funny thing in our stay is that the lock in the bathroom is broken and they improvise with a chopstick. The hotel staff are very nice and helpful, provided us lots of information about where to visit. The best thing about the hotel is free wifi which is very rare in Myanmar.
