Beautiful homestay with great food and great service”

Amazing adventure just reaching this homestay. Worth it for the trip in/out alone! Dinner was varied and very good. Cabin and beds were comfortable and the garden is lovely. Chilly did an excellent job coordinating our travel and a tricky airport transfer that went very smoothly thanks to his organizing.
The location is really great for kids with gardens and trails to explore, but the group vibe was more hostel. I imagine this changes with every group of guests though, so not necessarily a negative. Trip in and out is a bit of an adventure so best for kids out of the baby/toddler phase, but again depends on the kids/parents.

We had the best time in this island. Chilly was very helpful and make our trip very easy! The place is spectacular. Perfect for a 2 day off the grid! We had a family dinner for New Years that was very fun.
If the hot water does not work tell chilly and he will fix it for you.

Rustic but comfy homestay close to nature”

We really enjoyed our stay at the Viet Hai Lan Homestay. It's certainly off the beaten track and requires time and effort to get there - but this is well worth the effort for its proximity to the national park and the natural beauty of the area. The homestay itself is rustic but comfortable with lots of ambiance. The dining area is lit with fairy lights and we enjoyed the communal dinner served - with delicious food. The staff were also exceptional and very informative. Thank you to Chilly for helpful info on transport to get there and Thang who spent time talking to us about Cobra rice wine.

To be in the national park and not in the tourist center.
The place was somewhere different than it was on the map. With a difference of 1km. Realy had the feeling to be in a money machine. Crazy prices for everything. They could arrange the transfer from main land to the place but it would cost an arm, a legg, and even more. Breakfast is included, but water you have to pay.. I think, just as coffee, water is part of breakfast. (2$ for 1.5l)

A quiet gem tucked away in Viet Hai village with easy access to walks & day cruising/kayaking/swim”

The homestay is in the small village of Viet Hai and is a relaxing place to slow down and enjoy this local area. The accommodation was comfortable set in a lovely green garden with a pond. I liked the family life around me, and the workers building new accommodation. It was a treat to eat dinner with the family/extended family in traditional 'on the floor mat' for one evening. I was the only guest for a few days and was very comfortable, with one English speaking person who was my guide on the walk to the peak and very helpful in organising day cruise.

Incredible stay - off the beaten track”

Chilly and his helper were EXCELLENT hosts, very thoughtful, very helpful. We had never experienced such excellent service ever before. The "hike" is straight up a cliff, it is extremely difficult, I would recommend for experienced hikers only. Over 90% of it was 75 degree incline. Beautiful views at the top. Viet Hai village is off the beaten track, and is located on the other side of Cat Ba Island from Cat Ba Town. An additional ferry journey is required to get to this quiet little town (less than pop 300). It is amazingly quiet, remote, beautiful. Still have good wifi. I highly recommend it.

It’s in viet hai village so quiet and peaceful. It has lovely garden, the shared meal in the evening is reasonable price and includes several dishes. The room was spacious with ensuite bathroom. Staff very helpful and friendly. A great place.

Location is very nice, it is completely different feeling of Halong Bay. 1-2 nights is too short, I recommend longer stay, You can make hiking, boat trips night kayaking there. Night kayaking was awesome. And staff Jerry and Chilli are very helpful and you can rely on their support very much. Pictures dont fully show how nice place it is.
Humidity in room was high but it was raining. Boat trips etc cost some value of money, but it is completely different feeling of Halong bay if you visit it from Halong city.
