Great choice in the mountains”
We had one night in Kalaw before our trek to Inle Lake and we mostly stayed at Nature Land 2. They have a handful of sweet little cottages built on a hillside. We ended up in a multilevel cottage with beds upstairs, a sitting room downstairs, and a large bathroom in the middle. We were surprised to learn that the hotel was no more than two years old, as many of the faucets and fixtures looked like they'd been corroding for years. This was the only bathroom on our trip that smelled like a bathroom. However, the hotel is so moderately priced ($50) that we were happy to overlook this. At first I was worried that the hotel was too far from town to explore, but the market is just a 10 minute walk downhill and we easily used the hotel as a starting and ending point for a Lonely Planet walking tour that goes right past the hotel. The one major issue was that we didn't actually get to sleep at the hotel. As we were getting ready for bed and trying to shower, we discovered that we had no hot water. The nice staff tried to fix the tank, but ended up breaking a major pipe and shutting off the water completely. They brought out a plumber, but he said there was nothing that could be done that late at night. So, without any water and no free rooms, the manager found us another room in another hotel. He said he could cover the cost. We ended up at the Junction Rose, which while we were grateful for the room and the hot shower, was a far inferior hotel. We found out that it cost less than what we'd paid for Nature Land 2, so we asked for the difference from Nature Land's manager in the morning. They were happy to accommodate. Despite this major snafu, we were happy with the staff at Nature Land 2. They were kind and deeply apologetic and bent over backwards to make our late night shift easier. We decided to chalk this up to staying in a mountain town in a developing country. With this in mind, we would recommend Nature Land 2 as a good option in Kalaw.

Great choice if you're staying in Kalaw”
We enjoyed a brief but wonderful stay in the Nature Land Hotel II, and when we needed an extra night we transferred over to the Nature Land Hotel I so we could sample that, too. These hotels are very well-run and I would recommend them to anyone visiting Kalaw. They are a bit further away from Kalaw town centre, but it's just a 10-minute walk and it ensures your stay will be quiet and restful. Great place!

Friendly and caring staff”
Very very friendly and caring staff you could ever imagine. He made sure our stay in Nature Land || was amazing and safe. We went there during rainy season and the staff advised us what are all the places we could visit safely during that time, explained about those places and even showed the pics of those places. With their guidance we were able to safely explore Kalaw. Above all, we just booked a rental bike through the hotel and the person who took care of the rental booking proactively made sure that there are 2 rain coats and proper helmets as its raining out there. Coming to the hotel environment, very beautiful place to stay and enjoy with your love, family and friends. Don't miss the sunrise along with a coffee. They perfectly designed the place to enjoy your early morning along with a cup of coffee and warmth Sun Shine. Amazing stay, friendly and caring staff, reasonable price. I recommend this place to you all and wish you all enjoy your visit to Kalaw.

Absolutely wonderful”
My experience with Nature Land II was 5+ stars from the very beginning. I realized two days before I was to check in that I had messed up the dates I was supposed to stay there, called in a panic to see if I could switch them, and Nay assured me that there was no issue at all to change the dates. Nay also picked us up when we mistakenly went to Nature Land I instead of II--and this was just the start of the incredibly hospitality and generosity that was bestowed upon us during our stay. The rooms are actually their own stand-alone little houses with a wonderful sitting area downstairs. It was so impeccably clean, the decor is adorable, the views are spectacular (watching the sunrise over the hills with a cup of coffee in hand was one of my favorite activities), and the hot water with great water pressure is a huge bonus after you've been out hiking the hills. Big comfy beds, and it's so quiet at night. The loudest noise was the birds! I think I slept better there than I have in my entire life. It is about a 10 minute walk down the hill into town, but don't let that scare you away--you will not be disappointed staying here. Nay and his entire family and the staff were so kind to us, and everyone gathered to send us on our way when our taxi came. This place is an absolute gem and I highly recommend it!

A warm and friendly home from home”
We arrived in Kalaw with our five year-old daughter at 1am, with no reservation until the following night, as we had conflicting reports about how long the night bus would take... Staff at other hotels, sleeping in Reception, pulled their blankets over their heads and ignored us, so we called Nature Land 2, apologising profusely for our unsociable arrival, and not only did Nat Htoo and his partner immediately hop on their motorbikes to fetch us from the centre of town, but also gave up their own beds for us, as the hotel was full for the night. This turned out to be the theme of our stay - generous, warmhearted staff who did everything possible to make our visit as comfortable and easy as possible. Our daughter and Mgwe (Nat Htoo's wife) became fast friends, and spent hours playing together and with the lovely dogs, and even exchanged gifts when we left. The location was lovely - ten minutes' walk into town, motorbike taxis to bring us back (I had a sprained a ankle), five minutes' walk along a dark lane populated by fireflies beneath a clear, star-spangled sky to the nearest restaurant for dinner. My husband was able to arrange hiking to hill tribe villages while my daughter and I wandered around Kalaw, soaking up the day-to-day life and enjoying the tranquillity. Breakfast was omelettes, toast and jam and fruit - fairly basic, but you have to remember where you are! We stayed in a cottage with downstairs sitting room, large mezzanine bathroom and a big bedroom with large, comfy beds - again, not flashy, but very clean and we had everything we needed. Internet was probably a bit faster here than in Yangon! When the train to Inle broke down on Christmas Day and we were facing several hours' wait at the station, Nat Htoo stepped up again and arranged a taxi to take us instead. We'll be in touch with the family via Facebook to congratulate them on the birth of Mgwe's first baby in a couple of months, and our daughter keeps asking when we're going back.

Don't miss this lovely place”
Awesome stay at Nature Land Hotel II thanks to very friendly and attentive staff, especially the owner, charming spatious bungalows in a nice setting. The bungalows are comfy and clean, the terrace where we can have breakfast is great... What can we say, it's the best place where we stayed in 5 months in south-east Asia. Accomodation standards are quite poor in Myanmar, but Nature Land Hotel is really something else! The owners speaks good English and is always there to help with the nicest smile.

Great stay in the mountains but cold!”
We had such a nice time in Kalaw at Nature Land II. The staff was so freindly and attentive. They were a very sweet family and really wanted to please all the guests. The hotel is set a bit out of Kalaw center which made it nice and quiet, a little get-away, but a less than 10 min. walk to the center of town for eating, shopping, etc. The only surprise for us was how cold it was in Kalaw and in our hotel room. They had extra blankets but we layered up. Heaters would be a nice addition.

Pleasant hotel in back of Kalaw”
Kalaw is a small town on the Shan plateau and this small hotel/guesthouse is a good base for travel in the area. Located at the back of the town, on a hillside about 15 mins walk from the center, this is a quiet oasis with basic but comfortable rooms, with views over the valley. Friendly helpful staff make the place worth returning, and the room price is very reasonable.

Quaint bungalows ”
This is such a quaint little hotel! The breakfast was awesome it was garlicky rice with a fried egg on top served with bananas and sliced papaya..delicious! The bungalows have really comfortable wooden chairs outside so you can sit, read and take in the sights and sounds of kalaw! Staff was awesome they helped me arrange a taxi to inle lake when I didn't feel up for trekking. The owner made sure the taxi knew which hotel was my final destination. They have the most adorable little puppy to play with. Also gave me 2 extra water bottles for free when I asked if I could buy some. Excellent service and I highly recommend staying here.

Great surrounds”
We have been moved from the Nature Land Hotel II to the Nature Land Hotel I when we arrived around sunrise. They said it was because of the early check-in and that if you would wait until noon we could have it. But, I am not sure that was the real reason as no hotel was fully booked and it did happen to other guests. Be aware of it when you choose it for the view. On the plus side, the Nature Land Hotel I is way closer to town and the surrounding are great for a morning walk after a night in the bus. Facility and staff are great too.

Great room, lovely staff!”
I arrived on an overnight bus at 1am but my room was ready- great! Not only this, staff were happy to greet me, the room was practically a suite and I was charged nothing more for staying almost an extra night. The hotel is a little way out of town but it is actually only a few minutes walk down or up the hill. I was in Kalaw simply to book and begin the trek to Inle Lake, but had a very comfortable stay at Nature Land II. Staff are friendly and helpful, free wifi works fairly well from reception and the included breakfast was lovely. My room was clean and comfortable, and my en-suite had two showers, ample hot water and... a bath!! Bliss!

exceptional place, great location and staff.”
From star to finish we had a fantastic four nights. Away from the noise and dust of the town centre this hotel is a real gem.The lodges are big and we got a seperate lounge, big triple bedroom, good sized bathroom and a sun terrace. Breakfast and evening meals were excellent, there were bikes to hire and other transport happily organised. Our laundry was completed to the suggested standard. In Kalaw this is the place to stay.

Very nice hotel, large comfortable bungalows”
This is an excellent place to stay. It's quite new, and has several separate bungalows on a hillside. Very private, and good views. We stayed in one of the large, deluxe bungalows, which has a separate sitting room, and would be ideal for a family with kids. The owner and staff are very accommodating and helpful. It's owned by the same family who owns Natureland I. The two are not very close together, and the mini-bus driver who dropped us off on the highway in Kalaw gave us directions to the wrong one. But the owner was quick to come over and give us a lift in his car. It's a 10 to 15 minute walk into downtown.

Moved to Nature Land I”
I booked for Nature Land II but we were moved to Nature Land I because of a malfunctioning toilet in the last available room. The family who runs the place is extremely helpful and friendly. The villas are in a beautiful lush and quiet setting, but only a 10 minute walk to the centre. At night however, it gets really really cold and the rooms have no heating.

Feel super relax”
Room is very good. This hotel fulfilled our experience at Kalaw. It has an excellent surroundings. Hotel is located on the hill. We can walk down to the market or walk up to visit the bamboo Buddha image. The owner can speak Thai. That is superb.

Super Friendly Staff and clean rooms”
Even though we stayed here for only 2 nights, the staff made us feel directly at home. We especially appreciated the fact we could take breakfast when we wanted. One night they even brought us to a restaurant downtown on their motor scooters. Rooms are spacious with very clean bathrooms. If you're in Kalaw and want the guest house - feel with the hotel comfort...take this place and you will not be disappointed

Very welcoming couple with great view”
We spent 24h with my friend in the hotel. We had very nice discussions with the young couple of owners on the terrasse with good view on the mountains. They speak a very good English. The Grand father is often seated on the terrasse smiling. A place I highly recommend in Kalaw.

comfortable private bungalow with good view .”
Good location a short walk away from the centre of kalaw. Very god value. It was cold when we stayed but we were given extra blankets and a thermos for tea. There was some mould on the walls and wardrobe. Staff were really helpful. The guide they arranged provided very little information and the route after lunch was uninspired.
