A great place to stay in Hsipaw”
We had a lovely stay at Red Dragon Hotel! We travelled to Hsipaw by train from Mandalay. A representative from the hotel actually met us on the train about 30 minutes outside of Hsipaw and once at the station took us to free transport to the hotel. This made our arrival so very smooth and was much appreciated after the 11+ hours on the train! The location is just off the main road running through town so it has good proximity with much less noise! We booked an economy room (twin beds, shared bathroom). The room was a reasonable size for two. Bathroom access was on different levels but we found this worked well and we always had a spare bathroom/shower available when we wanted one. (we have stayed many places in SE Asia where shared bathrooms are on a different level so this isn't unusual and at the price we paid we felt this was fine). The breakfast is on the rooftop terrace which has good views of the town and nearby river. Breakfast is quite good - fresh cooked noodles, bananas, toast, tea/coffee. The staff were really helpful and overall had good English skills. They helped us book the 5:30am bus from Hsipaw to Mandalay and unlike a nearby and very popular hotel, they did not charge us any commission (we stopped by the tourist info at this other well known hotel and prices for the same bus were more than 1000 kyat more per person). The bus collected us at the hotel the following morning - all very smooth. We'd definitely recommend this hotel to other travellers and would return if back in Hsipaw in the future!

Great value new hotel”
I came here after spending my first night in Hsipaw at a popular cheap budget guesthouse (not naming any names...) that I absolutely hated. Red Dragon was a very nice change after that. I paid $12 per night (keep in mind that price is higher if you are 2 people) to stay in a superior room which had air conditioning, private bathroom, TV that actually included channels in English, views of the river, etc. I recommend paying the few extra dollars for one of the rooms with private bathrooms. The shared bathrooms are only located in the lobby area and on the rooftop so that seemed to be a bother for the guests who were staying in rooms without a bathroom. They have a nice rooftop area where breakfast is served, and it's also a great place to hang out and relax during the day (there's a cover over it to protect you from sun/rain which was nice). Staff even woke up early to pack up a to-go breakfast for me when I had to leave at 5 am for my bus. If I ever come back to Hsipaw I would stay here again!

Totally worth the price. ”
Red Dragon is a great cheap option. Staff were super friendly and helpful. They stored our luggage for free while we went trekking. Breakfast is so-so. Awesome view from roof top where they serve breakfast. Walkable to everything as Hsipaw is very small.

The best budget hotel in the area”
It seems that everyone goes to Mr Charles in this area but they should really rethink it and stay here instead. This is a hotel and not a dorm. I traveled as a solo traveler and this is great. I opted for a single room but there are two twin beds which means it is very spacious and you get the extra blanket and pillow. There are showers and toilets upstairs so try to stay farther up rather than downstairs which is like a dorm? The rooftop is ace. You get very good sunrises and sunsets without having to go somewhere else. Just bring your own booze. The breakfast is substantial and more than sufficient. The wifi is strong. You can also hand wash your laundry and hang it on the roof even though you can do laundry with the hotel too. There is not much to do in Hsipaw unless you head to a bar of sort. The hotel lobby plays English movies if that is something that interests you. The location is great and very central. You can walk to most places.

Functional hotel”
Red Dragon is a busy place catering for the increasing tourist population of Hsipaw. It offers standard, decent service, with a smile but no charm. I suggest sleeping there and going to Mr Charles guesthouse (just round the corner) for meals, socialising and trekking information.

Excellent”
Staff came to greet me (and other travellers) at the train station and provided free transport to the hotel. It is not far, about 12 min walking from the train and bus station, and also well located to explore "little bagan" and many local sights. My single economy room was quite spacious and the bed comfortable. The breakfast served in the rooftop is big and good but the coffee is a mix powder and not interesting. Staff prepared a special event on the roof to celebrate Christmas with traditional meal (Myanmar). I definitely recomment this to people coming to Hsipaw, i'd go back myself.

Great place to stay in Hsipaw”
Wonderful place! The only downsides are that the hot water occasionally runs only lukewarm, and the wifi is so slow as to be worthless. However, I did not hear that any other place in Hsipaw has decent wifi speeds. In fact, as I think about it, this may be a general Myanmar problem. The hotel set me up to do 2 half day hikes with Ko Hein. He was wonderful. He knows crops and plants really well and was lots of fun to talk with.

Excellent”
At $10/night for the room with in-suite bathroom (on Agoda) , this hotel is certainly the best hotel option in Hsipaw. Rooms with shared toilets are probably more trouble than they're worth. As other have mentioned, north-facing rooms can be noisy because of vehicle traffic, but I think that is true of most of Hsipaw's hotels which are on the same road.

Perfect servicing”
The servicing is great. They picked us up from the train to red dragon. They carried our luggages and they were very smiling and welcoming. There was nothing wrong to retain. Everything was perfect and the price was correct in compare if the rest of Myanmar. It was lovely to be considered as a customer and not a wallet. The breakfast was very good and generous. The common room was very comfortable and the staff available and helpful.

Great stay for a budget price”
Arrived by train to Hsipaw, someone already walked through the wagons before to notify us of the free pickup service. Rooms were clean and in good condition. Bathroom looked a bit older but still very good for myanmar standards. Very nice shower, lot of pressure and very hot if you wait a bit. Breakfast on the rooftop is nothing special but nice nonetheless. Staff did a very good job helping my friend to move rooms when he was sick and we had to stay another day.

Excellent”
We had a really great time at Red Dragon. The staff was so friendly and helpful! Breakfast was very tasty, the rooms were clean and the location is awesome. First night we booked an economy room which was fine, but the shared bathrooms are only on the ground floor and 6th floor (but the woman checking is in gave us a 1st rather than 2nd floor which was very nice). But, for 5 USD more we booked a superior room the next night that had a private bathroom, aircon, mini-fridge, tv and an absolutely beautiful view of the river & mountains. We would stay here again!

Very good for the money”
Room was excellent value, kept very clean. Good breakfast on the rooftop area with great views over the river. Stored my luggage for free when I went on a three day hike. Wifi isn't entirely reliable but I think that's true of most places in Hsipaw. Overall it's a good place for low cost, would recommend.

Budget place”
My first impression of the Red Dragon was quite bad. They put the mark on the map to a wrong place so I walked with all my luggage wrong direction. Though the room was OK for this price. They have toilets and bathrooms only on the ground floor and on the roof and since I booked a room with shared bathroom I walked steps quite a lot. Breakfast was OK though sometimes they forgot to bring something. Once I asked for my tosts 3 or 4 times.

Good budget hotel”
This is a recently opened budget hotel/hostel. The rooms were big, but the quality of the beds, etc. werr pretty minimal. Given the price and the fact that it's Hsipaw, it's understandable. Staff were very helpful and breakfast on the rooftop was nice. If you ask for a high floor, keep in mind this building is six stories and has no elevator.

best price in Hsipaw”
I really enjoyed my stay ay the Red Dragon. The staff is very friendly and helpful, there are bicycles available for rent, and the building is new and clean. The only thing missing is an elevator in a 6 story building.

Great short-term stay, same Myanmar problems”
Cheap, nice accommodation for what it is. Free pick up from train station. I couldn't believe that for that price I'd have a whole room for myself. I was lucky to find a group, on arrival, who wanted to trek and that one of these guys had been there for 3 days and was already researching: a very helpful member of staff (the only one who can speak or understand English at all) got in touch with an acquaintance and we did an unforgiveable locally-organized trek with a lovely independent guide. She also managed to arrange me a bus ticket for my next destination, right before the Water Festival. Most of their problems are the common issues of hospitality throughout the country: extremely poor wifi, power cuts in the evening, and a staff that will give you blank stares at the simple request as they don't speak any English (and probably have very little experience with hospitality as well). The major problem was their incapacity to deal with the tuk-tuk-load of tourists that come all at once from their free pick up service: the reception is tiny and they get nervous and overwhelmed trying to assist everyone at once (and to speak English), or organize all the tourists wanting to be assisted at once... Also, I arrived for breakfast at 6am (opening hour), and they looked at me like a tourist entering a restaurant only to ask for the toilet. Another traveler was celiac, and the woman rudely shouted at her "only one egg per person", not understanding that she could not eat the bread or the noodles. Other people randomly got more eggs, or more fruit, or more noodles. Only one toilet on the ground floor and another on the 6th floor (dining area), so you need to climb/go down 1-3 floors to use the toilet (constantly busy). The tuk-tuk to the "bus station" was paid for, and no one could tell us where it was. It was a 10min walk. Overall, a great short stay, and will be quite smooth if you don't interact much.
