It is an old palace converted to hotel with big beautiful garden. Pool is small but beautiful. Rooms are spacious. Some are quite big in comparison to others so it is advisable to look for a couple of rooms before checking in. Breakfast was very decent and different kinds of tastes were catered to. Food at the restaurant was not that good for my family. There are better places in close vicinity to dine. The hotel is centrally located and the Thamel market is just 5-6 mints walk away. The hotel staff is very cooperative and try to cater to the special needs and requests to the best of their capability. An example is that they arranged for the Star Cricket channel for us on our request so that we did not miss the final cricket match of Champions trophy. The transportation provided by the hotel is slightly expensive when compared to the taxi rates available outside. However, one can find taxis easily just outside the hotel owing to its location. Overall, they provided us with a very comfortable stay at a very reasonable price!

This is a 5* hotel and at this price you expect 5* service and quality. And mostly this is what we got, the room was big and mostly worked well, the service was faultless, especially the staff on the Customer Services desk. The location is great, easy walking distance to the shops/bars/restaurants on Durbar Marg and not far to Thamel. Be warned, Nepal is suffering from electricity cuts and the bath/shower water is luke warm at best. Not the hotel's fault I understand, but then a generator would help. Excellent breakfast. But, why does a hotel have to charge US$20/person for an airport transfer when the taxi fare is US$7 for 2 people? And why does a 5* hotel have to charge 1000 Nr for 24 hours of internet access, when there are plenty of free WiFi connections nearby. These charges are a rip off!! Would I stay there again? Probably not, it's fine if you are on business but if it a holiday then Dwarikas is far superior and worth the slightly extra money.

As our original booking at some other hotel was canceled by Agoda at short notice we had to quickly book something else (while already on the way to the airport. Agoda suggested some options and one was the new Royal Penguin. We were pleasantly surprised as we found a hotel in the heart of Thamel with well-trained and very friendly staff, with with well-kept rooms (ok, the interiour design of rooms and public areas is a bit quirky but it is fun). For those who normally have to rush to beat the breakfast service deadline - this hotel is for you as it serves breakfast at any time of the day. and it offers good breakfast choices (luckily no buffet; the coffee choice could be iffy brew, though, not instant coffee). The hotel is perfectly located for those who enjoy shopping in Thamel. When you book make sure you get the new Royal Penguin, the old one, which is close by, has no lift (unless you don't mind the exercise). Although the hotel is brand new (opened in March 2014) it seems to be in high demand already. We will definitely book this hotel again.

spent 2 nights there after arriving in Kathmandu, then after 2 nights in Nagarkot hilltop village came back to Shambala. By far the best hotel I stayed in while in Nepal. Breakfast was 1st class as was the staff,also comfortable clean room. After returning from walking around the chaotic streets it was so nice to have a relaxing massage in the Spa followed by dinner in the hotel restaurant. The reception staff helped me to arrange a flight over the Himalayas and the magnificent Mt. Everest for a never to be forgotten experience. Will recommend Shambala to all my friends.

The hotel first impressed us by its design. It is a very nice hotel. It makes you feel like you are in an old nobleman house. The staff are efficient, yet friendly. There is also a yoga class every morning. The manager was great. We missed the morning yoga class as we need to leave for Pokhara very early the next day. When we came back to KTM and the hotel was fully booked, the manager even allowed us to join the yoga class the other morning. Impressive. The room might be a big too hot in September, but overall service and management made it great for us. We tried the restaurant, pretty good food. The cocktail was nice there. They put so much alcohol that I could not finish it. Good experience.

The hotel is located in nice place, not far from crowded area. Transports and everything is near by. Hotel people are also nice to guide you for your trip. I was there for one night with my 9 years old Son, hotel upgraded my room. The only thing that not match with the hotel as called 5 star is its swimming pool. Its quality, services, maintenance, amenities and management people of the pool is too poor as per my requirement. Overall its worth your money for a short visit or business trip.

I had a wonderful stay in Avataar Kathmandu. The location is right in the centre of Thamel but yet it was quite and peaceful. After three weeks of trekking I booked another 3 star hotel in Kathmandu . The hotel was ok but there were no electricity and hot water -Nepal is in energy crisis- after three days I decided to move to Avataar Kathmandu hotel after reading all the good reviews online. Surprisingly, there were 24hrs power and hot shower available in Avataar, really made you feel like human again. The room is clean complete with almost everything you need. I was so glad that I moved to Avataar Hotel. The best value hotel in Kathmandu!

This is my second time staying here, this time with my mum who always dreamed of visiting Nepal for 10 days. When we checked in, we had booked the best room and they gave us this small, dirty old room in which we were quite shocked. When we asked to look at another room they gave us the biggest with a large balcony just over reception which is what we should have gotten in the first place as it is what we booked. The cleaning daily was very clean, location is prime to walk everywhere. DO NOT book from the tour lady, she is absolutely horribly rude and can tell hates all tourists and her job, only ever had issues with her so went to a small tour agency called Brilliant Tours and Travels (yellow sign with yellow and red writing) across the road from Pumpernickel bakery and they were so amazingly helpful, kind and their products were incredible and good priced!! Defnitely go to them. The wait staff at the cafe and restaurant were all so lovely and kind, they made our stay amazing :)

I have travelled quite a bit and have stayed at all types of hotels in my lifetime, but I have never seen a hotel like this one. It is beautiful, its in the city but as soon as you walk in everything outside those doors disappears. I really could see myself staying in the hotel and not venturing out at all! Everything seems so unique and blends well with the Nepalese culture etc. the design, the layout, the spa, the rooms! We were a group of 7 people, and our three rooms were upgraded to Junior Suites which are gorgeous rooms. The amenities are awesome! they have actual store bought toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, mosquito repellant, etc. just in case. The bar is super cozy and the food is excellent. You must try the meatballs and the momos! Those were our favorites. There is a library that is very cozy especially when its cold outside. In the day you can lounge around the beds and couches that are scattered around outdoors in the garden, and if its warm enough you can dip into the pool. Their gym is good enough and they have yoga classes. The spa isn't out of this world but the masseuses are incredible!! The hotel also work with a sister company for guided tours and our tour guide was really awesome (Robin) and was very informative and helpful with booking trips around kathmandu and to pokhara.

The hotel is in a great location, quite close to Thamel area. The staff are friendly and helpful but it does not have the 5 star appeal of other hotels we have stayed at. There was plenty of choice for breakfast and the Indian restaurant was excellent. The pool and surrounding area is pleasant with a good bar area serving food. The room service staff added extra base covers to the bed to help soften the firm mattress although they were a bit lax in replacing toiletries. Kathmandu 10 Hotel 8

This property spanning around 22 acres in the most perfect location outside of Kathmandu pampers all of the senses from the visual to the sublime. The staff is outstanding, the rooms encompass gorgeous views, and the food is some of the best in the world. Activities abound like a hike to the local farm, yoga, meditation, painting, spa, Pottery, or just lounging in one of the multiple forest sitting areas. Service and amenities are 5 star, this was one of the best stays we've discovered around the world. this will remain one of our greatest memories of travel.

This has to be one of the most memorable experiences I've had. The place is a magical winter land just without the snow. It's everything you would expect from a hill resort. The hotel has gardens, flowers, swings, pool, hot tub, spa, colors, lemongrass incense everywhere to the point even the bed sheets smell of it while you sleep at night. Each room has a balcony with a view of the mountains, which continuously changes as the clouds pass. The BEST part of the hotel is the glass balcony, where one can spend hours doing absolutely nothing but staring at the view of the mountains and the clouds. I literally saw two rainbows in a span of an hour. From the same balcony one can see the sunrise and sunset if lucky and there is no mist. Even if there is mist the view is breath taking because one is engulfed in the clouds and its so nice and cool and peaceful. The staff is extremely efficient and cordial. They even allow you to have your meals in this beautiful balcony under candle light. If you just want to relax and be at peace then this is the perfect place to be. It's just 1.5 hrs from Kathmandu.

A place which talks about beauty and luxury, a place which makes you feel like home - Gokarna Forest Resort! Been a traveller and have stayed in the best of hotel chains across the world , I would not hesitate to say that this Resort is the best one so far and shall always remain forever young in my heart. No doubt its a very beautiful property with all the modern amenities but what makes it precious is the people working for this resort. All the 5 stars offers luxury but Gokarna stands out because it makes you feel like home . Each and every one out there ensures to cater to make you feel comfortable- right from the front desk to the housekeeping ,one is greeted with warmth and smile. I would really like to thank each one of them specially Tashi & Deepika and there was another lady whose name I couldnt remember. Tashi - how much I appreciate for everything you did ,you left no stone unturned.Deepika with her smile ever willing to assist. Can never forget you Tashi! Everything was taken care and I had the best time of my life. The spa is brilliant must say . I wouldn’t hesitate to say that it is excellent and I liked it more than Anantara signature spa which I took last month in Dubai in Anantara spa &resort. The thai restaurant overlooking the golf course is so serene and food was good too. Don’t forget to try out the Nepali thali in their main restaurant .However couldn’t do the forest walk for it was raining in Nepal that time but it too should be great. All in all I would say, my heart goes out for this resort.

I was impressed by pictures and detailed descriptions of rooms on agoda website - but when I saw these glass installations live in my living room and bathroom I was really stunned. The lighting is amazing. I like most the huge ceiling lamp on the second floor of the restaurant – I felt myself like I’m in a theater or something. Ceiling in the lobby has many-coloured lustres – very beautiful. And the blue lighting in the corridors at night gives a feeling you are in a fairyland. The restaurant looks amazing with all these petrified wood from dinosaur’s time, shiny teak root furniture and paintings. The menu was really thick. It is actually like a book with plenty of pictures. It is a pity I couldn’t order chocolate fondue because they are still in a kind of opening process but the stuffed apple with nuts and honey was the best I ever tried. No noisy music, very comfortable. What I liked the most about this place – it’s completely smoke-free! Even in the roof-top garden. Finally I could enjoy myself sitting in the sun, chatting with friends and not been disturbed by smoke. By the way, they have huge waterfall and comfy swings at the roof. The bed was very comfortable. I’m a tall person and appreciate big long beds very much. The electronic door lock is convenient and they really have electricity and hot water 24 hours. Very unusual for Thamel. I would have never left if I didn’t already make my further travel plans. I will tell my friends in Germany about this hotel )

our family of five recently stayed here and upon check-in the staff told us connecting rooms were not available even though i'd contacted the hotel prior to arrival stating this is what we needed since we had small children. the staff were very accommodating in working with us to find a larger room and moving two cots into it so that we could all be in one room. very professional and helpful. the breakfast was good and we walked to thamel one evening, which although it was a noisy walk we were able to make it in about 10-15 minutes. we took a taxi back to the hotel for ~$2. would definitely stay here again.

Myself and my girlfriend had a wonderful time at Hotel Mulberry! When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeting with mango juice and shown to our room. We had booked a Junior Suite, which my girlfriend and I both agreed was even nicer than the pictures. The room is spacious, the beds are very comfortable and the bathroom had both a separate bath and shower. The hotel has an infinity pool on the roof which is simply gorgeous - the views are spectacular - as well as a bar that services food and drink. The location of the hotel was perfect for us! It's in the middle of Thamel - the main place for shopping, food and drinks etc, and minutes away from the Garden of dreams - well worth a visit. I think the hotel's main selling point was how lovely the staff were. Every member greeted us warmly and were accommodation. All staff made every effort to ensure we had the best time possible! Would definetely recommend!

The best thing about this hotel is its views as it's placed in a relatively remote part of Nagarkot. The views from each room (all rooms have balconies/face the mountains) are breathtaking. However this also happens to be it's fatal flaw where there are not many facilities nearby nor did the hotel take steps at providing them. This is one of the more expensive places to stay in Nagarkot however I felt it was not reflected in the state of the rooms, which could use some updating.

I have been travelling for 30 years to all corners of the world including the best room in the top 5 star hotel in Kathmandu yet the Ambassador Garden Home was the best value hotel I have stayed in. Comfortable room with en suite toilet and shower. WiFi, TV and fridge and smack bang in the centre of town. To get this with Breakfast included for £27 for the night was amazing value for money but that wasn't even everything! There was a free Fruit Bowl and a Beer, Water and Fruit Juice in the fridge all on the house. Finally the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. They really did everything to help and make me feel valued.

The hotel had a friendly atomphere with a high class service. Exceptional staff i have seen here,always helpful with pleasing personalities. I was there with my 15 month old kid and staff helped me throughout my stay in every possible way for making my kids stay comfortable. received excellent service from all of the staff throughout our stay. Cleaniness at its best. Near by all major kathmandu locations. Can find all the best location to eat near by. Five star for staff and their willingness to help.Keep it up the good work guyz.

I stayed with my family on this hotel, the management and staffs were quite helpful,one small suggestion is to improve on the Internet connectivity from rooms, it's not bad but needs improvement, hotel is quite good with good breakfast ( they arranged Indian breakfast items as well which should be continued as default), the amazing part was that the owner Mr. Deepak himself came to pick up us from airport which was nice of him, we enjoyed our stay at Dom Himalaya with parents and Child, Wishing Mr. Deepak all the best for the future

The couple of days we stayed at the Hotel was nothing short of ultimate bliss and relaxation. No words can aptly describe the scrumptious food or the serenity of the mountain view from the hotel. Only reason I am giving 4 star for the facilities is the lack of "Ginger ale" at the bar or the restaurant despite the menu indicating otherwise, and for the slightly high cost of using the sauna and steam room - but to be honest, I am really nit picking :)

When I booked the hotel they offered me a complimentary pick up from the airport which was great. The pick up was on time and I was greeted well at the hotel. The staff did everything to try to make my stay good and were happy to sit and chat to me about my stay and how they could make it better. The location is great and walking distance to Thamel and shops, bars and some historical sights. The hotel even helped me arrange private tours. My room was nice and big and breakfast was fine for me. Overall I had a great stay in Kathmandu and the friendliness of the staff at the hotel was a great part of my stay.

Hands down the best hotel during our stay in Nepal. The room we had was large and very clean. Everything was well-maintained and modern which is hard to come by in Nepal. The shower worked perfect with lots of hot water during winter. The breakfast was good enough too. The real winner here is the staff. The manager personally greeted and welcomed us when we arrived and made sure we had a good experience. He and the rest of the staff were extremely polite and professional. Smiles were all around all the time. The hotel also provided a free pick up/drop off even though we only stayed one night which is a very nice touch. We were also able to extend our stay until late at night to catch our flight home for a very reasonable price. High recommended!

My friend and I were really happy with Hotel Osho. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends. The staff was very helpful. They picked us up from the airport, answered our questions, exchanged money, helped us find supplies we needed and booked plane tickets to Lukla for us. Communication via email was very efficient. The room was super comfortable (especially compared to the guesthouses while trekking). It was a great place to come back to after trekking. The shower was AMAZING. After a week of trekking, it was heaven. Lots of really hot water, lots of water in general. The only downside was the area was a bit noisy but nothing that would bother anyone from a big city. Be sure to go to Frend's Cafe across the street: food was delicious (and cheap!) and the masala tea - the best ever!

I came during the monsoon time. Then Kathmandu is not too hot, although humid. I decided to try out the non-AC, shared bathroom part of this 3-star hotel and I found it good enough. The room is still big enough with a desk. It has a powerful fan and windows opening on opposite sides to get some breeze through. The shower and bathroom are just outside the room in the corridor and all is kept very clean. The hotel grounds with restaurant and swimming pool are still available also. Good value-for-money.

as an international traveler, i seek out the best hotels to care for my body, mind and spirit. hotel tibet is one of the best hotels i have experienced as a guest. i was immediately impressed by the gracious and friendly staff who wore traditional tibetan attire. everyone was was overly accommodating, anticipating my needs and provided excellent service. the atmosphere creates an immediate sense of peace and tranquility. the detail in the woodwork, art pieces, hand-painted trim and views of the boudha stupha elevate this hotel to the highest level from any other hotel in kathmandu. most of all, the abundantly caring service provided by the staff created a lasting experience and differentiates hotel tibet international from all others. i hosted a dinner at the shangri la kitchen which offered exquisite selections from tibetan, chinese and intercontinental cuisines. we enjoyed a variety of appetizers and entries from all categories and not a single crumb was left on anyone's plate! over a breakfast meeting, we had the same experience and send our compliments to the chef and staff for this achievement. while you are a guest, you would be remiss not to schedule time at the spa before you depart kathmandu. the environment was relaxing and aromatic. the hot stone massage was the best i have ever experienced and rejuvenated my body after the many harsh travels environments i subject it to while in kathmandu for three weeks. i would also recommend you visit the tibetan carpet showroom on the lower level of the hotel which create unique handwoven rugs/works of art created by the tibetans. a treasure to take home as a remembrance of your visit to this region and in support of the tibetan people. i will definitely return to hotel tibet international when i return to kathmandu!
