Enjoy the inn a lot.”

staff, location

Cleanliness and coziness was something to highlight with this inn. The room was neat and lovely with comfortable beds. I booked the one with private restroom, which was very spacious. However the shared toilet also looked very clean and tidy so it's up to your choice. We took a night bus from Bagan and reached Kalaw by 2AM. Richard Inn was just a 5 minute walk from the station we were dropped off so it was very convenient. Richard was a lovely person and his staff was also very nice and helpful.

Nice and clean hotel”

I arrived to Richards Inn after 9 hours long trip from Yangon at 4 am. The reception was closed but after I rang the bell, the receptionist came and provided check-in. The hotel has a similar familial atmosphere and it feels like European mountain hotel. It is clean and silent. The staff is very nice and helpful when needed. Wi-Fi wasn't very fast so I had to use mobile data which wasn't a big problem as it is for a reasonable price in Myanmar. Overall, I would stay again in Richards Inn and recommend to stay at this nice place.

Great value, friendly staff, well looked after”

Friendly staff, clean, accommodating

We stopped over in kalaw for one night. Richard is a lovely man and we felt really looked after, we arrived super early at 2am after getting an overnight bus and someone was up waiting to let us in, it is great value for money and all the staff are lovely. If we came back to kalaw we would definitely stay again!

Comfortable budget accommodation with friendly staff”

We stayed in a twin room in the attic. The room was a good size, comfortable and clean. The breakfast was okay, two pieces of toast, jam and butter and scrabbled eggs. This came with fruit and coffee/tea. One day we got a pancake as well which was good. The staff are very friendly and attentive. It is a short walk into the centre of Kalaw with lots of decent restaurants close by. Overall a convenient stay and would definitely stay again!

Amazing stay ”

I stayed 3 nights in Richards Inn and I felt very well because of the staff first, but also for the place itself that is very cosy. The receptionist helped me a lot with various question such booking my next hostel in a place not touristic, asking for a bus that goes there and so on. My last morning I had to leave early and the prepared the breakfast before the regular time specially for me. I recommend 100% this place.

Richard's openness. Comfort. Center but out of the noisy part

Great. Very much recommended. Really good value for money. Good price for a quiet, clean and comfortable room with bathroom. Richard, the owner, speaks good English. I appreciated his openness even when I asked about controversial topics.

The host, charming house, location

This is great value accommodation in the heart of Kalaw. Note that it's a large house, with share bathrooms and facilities. The host is a very interesting man who speaks perfect English. Location is across the road from Seven Sisters restaurant.

Good”

The Richard's Inn is well located, but not really in the center of the city. The room is very nice and very clean. There is just one toilet so if you have a room with a common bathroom it can be crowded sometimes. If you are planning to arrive in Kalaw with the nocturn bus pay attention, you have to book two nights! The owner didn't let us go in after a ride if we don't pay for a night extra, even if the room was empty, and that until 12 a. m. We are travelling a lot in Myanmar with nocturn buses and this never happened to us.

Good hotel!”

I'm surprised with some of the other reviews because we really liked this hotel! We stayed only one night but would have liked to stay more. We had the room upstairs, really quiet and enjoyable! Bathroom is clean but shared, we were few at this time so it was OK, but it can be bothersome with more people. Wifi was working in the morning, not the day before (read other reviews about that if that's important for you, we have local SIM card so we don't mind). Nice restaurant in front of the hotel. We left our luggage during the 3 days trek to Inle Lake and get them back in Inle without a problem after that with a motorbike driver arranged with our guide. Cheap and good!

Good cheap price for kalaw. Rooms comfortable, clean, but very cold. The staff not very friendly and need to smile more. NO wifi (although advertised for having wifi) it is a mobile phone hotspot which seems to be a real inconvenience to switch on for guests.

Exceptional”

Enjoyed my time here, I had a small single room on the top floor which was really good value for money. Some people mentioned that there is only one bathroom to share, but that's actually not true - there are three bathrooms available (2 on the ground floor) and personally I never had to wait for one to become free as it is a small guesthouse. Breakfast was really nice, with bread, eggs and pancakes and as much coffee or tea as you'd like. The hotel is next to the main road, however it's not particularly busy and didn't bother me personally.

Amazing place”

This was honestly one of the best accommodations I've stayed in throughout SE Asia. We arrived very early in the morning after having done a night bus. Although we were only allowed to check in in the early afternoon, they could see that we were exhausted and let us into one of the family rooms to sleep (for free!) until our room was ready. The staff are just so lovely, the beds are comfortable and the place is clean. The breakfasts were plentiful and much healthier than a lot of other breakfasts we'd had in Myanmar and the portion sizes were big! The bathrooms / toilets are shared but are kept very clean and are big which makes a nice change. There's a lovely restaurant across the road which you should check out too.

Ok if you have a tight budget ”

Location is a few minutes from where the bus drops you off so that's a plus. The check in was a little unwelcoming though there was a nice guest that helped us out. There's no wifi. Richard will let you connect to his phone's internet and it will cut in and out and then you're just kicked off after 5 minutes or so (not sure if he cuts you off). The bathroom wasn't the nicest and the warm water would go in and out. My room was in the attic and it was sufficient but you had to go downstairs for the toilet. The breakfast was decent but some kind of fruit would have been nice. i recommend this place if you are here for just one night and want to save a few bucks....you get what you pay for.

Lovely, charming hotel with great host”

The room was lovely, with an ensuite bathroom, plenty of windows and comfy mattresses.

I really liked this little hostel/hotel. It is cheap and cheerful, very clean and the beds were comfy. Malawi is small so everywhere is close by. The hotel owner speaks excellent English. I only stayed 1 night but I would have liked to stay longer and would definitely stay there again. Breakfast is the Myanmar standard of eggs and toast and jam.

Dont go here!”

- breakfast was ok -

After arriving at the hotel from mandalay at 3.30 in the morning we wanted to wait in the lobby till our room was ready (we booked some days before) after 5 minutes the owner said it was no problem and we could use the room imidiatly. He didnt tell us we had to pay for this night only after we already took a nap. We didnt like this because we were willing to wait till the morning. The owner of this hotel gave us the feeling we were intruders in his house so we didnt feel comfortable at all. The water pressure was gone most of the day and when it worked the shower was still cold (this is terrible because it can be really cold in kalaw). The staff of the old man was really rude. We were talking to2 other travellers in the lobby when 1 of them decided to turn up the volume of the tv so we coudnt hear eachother anymore. When we asked to turn it down he didnt care. Still the worst about this hotel is they say they have Wi-Fi but they dont!! When u ask for it the old man just put on a hotspot in his phone that 2 people Could use for maximum of 2 minutes. There was a big festival the day we we re in kalaw but he didnt bother telling us. Overall a really bad stay. Please pick another hotel.
