"Simply out of this world. 6 cottages on water, lovingly tended to by Aung Min & his Wife and 4 staffs recruited from the nearby school. We chose to arrive via road and leave by boat. The road condition wasn’t fantastic, but view along the way gave us an insight into the real Burmese life. Aung Min manage to squeeze in a day tour of the areas from Nyaung Shwe to The Sanctuary. Upon arrival, we were treated to fantastic home cooked meal served up by Aung Min’s wife. You do have to pay for your dinner here (breakfast provided free), but the cost isn’t marked up compared to some other out of the way resorts. We fell in love with the room the moment we saw them. And the turn down service they provided while we dine was a lovely gesture. Do consider the tour options provided by the Sanctuary, we loved ours where we got to visit the 5-day market, see how rice cracker and rice wine was made and even gate crash a Kayah hunting festival! When we mentioned that we would liked to visit the Monastry at the village, Aung Min decided to give us an impromptu guided tour the next morning. What a sight seeing the hundreds of students attending the free school provided by the monastery! This place is definitely out of the way, but imagine sharing the lovely Phayartaung and the beautiful Samkar lake with only 5 other tourists in the height of the tourist season! Be ready to be charmed by the locals here"
