“Go ahead and book this gem at a great price”
Booked this hotel for 3 nights in March 2024, After reading some of the reviews, wondered if I was crazy! My wife who I should describe as meticulous rather than fussy was also nervous about what we'd encounter. Apart from the rather indifferent welcome at reception (think Glasgow Charm School nearly passed) everything has been marvellous. The room on the 1st floor was spacious and clean - as was the en-suite shower room. Bed was comfortable with sparkling clean fresh linen. Maid had cleaned the room and replaced the towels while we were out for the day. Heating from the radiator can accurately be described as blaring (think Mephistopholes) - but for a Winter stay it was perfect. It does shut off overnight automatically though. You'd need a wrench to alter it yourself though. The room has so many electrical sockets that you can access, I can only assume the electrician had a version of ADHD and Alzheimers at the same time. The bed was very comfortable - but only 1 pillow each when I usually sleep with 2. Its city location is excellent - a quiet setting despite being set back a little from a busy at times main road - about a mile or so to the castle with a bus stop outside the front door. We had driven up so the private parking included in the rear courtyard was a bonus. Also of note is a Sainsbury supermarket and many fast food chains at a small mall a 5 minute walk away (opposite the Travelodge on the street corner.) For the record, you can't swing a cat around in the shower cubicle - but as pets are not allowed, this was never a problem for us. The following morning saw a new receptionship but clearly a classmate of the first one. Go ahead and book this gem at a great price. (Search the comparison sites as there was a £20 difference between them)
