    “Disappointing”

my mother and I had arranged a one night stay at the Regency hotel in Solihull, on Sunday 25th of August further to a day out at the National Memorial Arboretum. The cost of the double room included breakfast. at approx £85 My mother is an 87 year old disabled lady and wheelchair user. Although she can walk a few steps too. Our first bedroom smelt very strongly of cigarettes, but this was quickly rectified and we were given a different bedroom by the nice chap on Reception. The decor in the hotel/bedrooms, other than in reception and the bar is very tired and outdated, as are the carpets. But the room was clean as was the bedding. We went into Harry's Brasserie for our separately paid for evening meal, which was a nice meal and staff were pleasant, but the room was very chilly in there . However, on the Monday morning 26th August, the day of our departure, we knew we had to vacate the room by 11am, and went down for breakfast, arriving at 10:05 am. This was due to the fact that It had taken considerable time to get my mother up and downstairs that morning as well as finding out where we had to go for breakfast! Especially as there is no literature in the rooms as regards to facilities and timings. But at Breakfast we were informed that breakfast had officially finished at 10am, and we were not allowed anything to eat or drink unless we chose from the brunch menu, which would be chargeable. This was despite the fact that there were people still sitting around having their breakfast, and clearly looking very sorry for us!! I was asked why we were late and I explained that I thought breakfast would be going on until 11am, as there was no literature in the bedroom to say about where it was or the the timings of breakfast, and there had been nothing about breakfast times on the confirmation, only about arrival and departure times. I was instead told that if I wanted to try claim any money back for our breakfast we would have to raise a complaint via email. (Although I have not had any response as yet). I felt the situation was very unfair, especially when it was very clear my mother was very elderly, disabled and frail. The fact that she wouldn’t “out of courtesy”, be offered a hot drink and a pastry or a little bit of cereal from the already paid for breakfast menu was awful even if not for me. This would have been a “human” approach. There seemed to be no personal consideration for our situation, and I must have looked hot and bothered by that time. As a matter of principle we decided to leave and have breakfast elsewhere - albeit much later, by the time she could do this and take her medications. Before leaving The Regency, one chap approached us to say it was "disgusting" and that my mother had been treated in that way, and he wouldn't be staying there again, noting that they had clearly been "Jobsworths" about this and he apologised that he had not said anything at the time!!

    “Regency Hotel, Solihull”

This building needs serious renovation. It is very tired and much of it is in disrepair. The windows in our room were mouldy and in need of replacement. The carpet had 2 iron burns on it. The furniture was old tired. After saying that, the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom again was very tired with marks on & in the bath. the sink filled even without the plug in place and then it struggled to empty. However Harry's bar, where breakfast was served had been completely refurbished and a very pleasant room. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice buffetstyle. We didn't get around to the pool, so cannot comment on that. Most of the few staff we actually saw, were friendly and helpful, apart from the receptionist on arrivalwho quite honestly looked as if he didn't want to be there, but he was on his own and had quite a queue to be booked in. Our room keycard failed twice so my husband had to trundle back down to reception to get it reset. I stood outside of the room while he sort that problem! I have limited mobility and hidden disabilities which make it uncomfortable to stand for long and there was nowhere to sit down to wait. The last point is that I did request for another night to be added, but never received a reply, I was actually quite relieved that we only had 2 nights! In summary, I don't think there were enough staff members, certainly not on reception, to look after guests. I also felt that the building itself needs the urgent renovation that it deserves. I'm just glad that I booked through Agoda, as I feel that the £92 per night without breakfast is definitely not worth it. I very rarely leave negative feedback, but in all honesty, I feel that this was the worst hotel I have stayed in for a long time....

    “Cheap and value for money”

This is a cheap hotel. Although it needs renovation, it is in the process, but will prob take time. Rooms are clean and dated. The first room I was allocated was not up to standard, and I went to reception and they were very helpful and upgraded me for free to a bigger room. It was clean and comfy. Again dated but to be expected. Other hotel in area are double price but lack the personal feel of this. It has a pool, which is heated and really war, and a lovely assent to the hotel. It also has a plunge pool, jacuzzi, steam and sauna room, which is included in the price of the room , oh, and Free parking per night, which again you have to pay for elsewhere. Nothing is too much for the staff. I was dubious about staying here, as I read the reviews, after booking, but it am glad I stayed, as I has a comfortable pleasant stay, and it was made better by saving over £90 pn if I had booked a mile down the road in different hotel, where I would of paid more for room, parking and gym access. Look above the reviews, open your mi d to dated interior, and see it as traditional, enjoy the pool and leisure accessories, and enjoy the savings, esp in todays climate.

    “Okay with minor issues”

Great stay with a few minor drawbacks Our recent stay at this hotel was overall pleasant. The location was convenient, with easy access to nearby attractions and amenities. The cleanliness of the property was commendable, and the staff members were friendly and accommodating. We found the value for money to be reasonable, considering the quality of service provided. However, we did find the facilities to be somewhat lacking. While the essentials were in place, there were certain amenities that could have been improved or added. The first room we were allocated had two single beds joined together which resulted in a very uncomfortable first nights sleep. We complained and they changed the room for the next day and that one had a proper double bed. Despite these minor drawbacks, we would still recommend this hotel for a comfortable stay.

    “Budget price ”

I guess you get what you pay for but I was very disappointed. I chose this hotel based on price but was very hopeful because the hotel itself looked really lovely! My room was down a number of corridors round the back of the hotel with many doors and stairs (struggled with all my bags). Room very disappointing, very dated & tired and stained carpet. Bed & bathroom were clean but just wasn’t a very pleasant stay. The reception member who checked me in gave me no information about the facilities/restaurant whatsoever so I went to my room with no idea on what was on offer! She also charged me incorrectly for the car parking charge and didn’t know how to refund me. That said the meal I had in the restaurant was very nice with very lovely staff and the chef catered for my needs. No complaints there but I won’t be staying here again!
